Silkie thread!

I guess my question to you is: Do you trust your hen or not? If you trust her - leave her alone. Back way off and do not bother her. Messing with her and moving her around to see what is happening may make her do stuff she wouldn't usually do - like step on the eggs and break them. The hen will move around in reaction to you being there - when they are in broody/hatching zen they don't move... its called the "Pancake" for that reason. Flat - and NO MOVEMENT. If you don't trust her - then take the eggs away and hatch and brood them yourself.

The only time I have ever heard of chicks under a broody being shrink-wrapped is when some human is messing with them. The hen will "help" them if they get stuck and yell loud enough...

went out and took pics today,
my blue roo, 6 months

above roos brother he is black

and this is their sister!
Your Blue boy looks like a Show Off!

I like the wideness on the Black, and I actually prefer his normal stance and not the reared-back stance of the Blue. The sister could grow a bit more , but she stands well.

Pretty birds, thanks for sharing.

it blows in through the vents'  basically they had 4 walls, and the roof is a slant.  with the two sides of the metal roof, instead of having the wood go up to a point on top, they left it open and added wire.  well, it is quite open, so all the rain blows right in.  I tried covering it up, but then they get frost bite in the winter.  snow blows in there too and it is like a big snow drift in there!

Oh dear!! I'm lucky enough not to have snow to worry about

I want to post a picture of my new special needs girl, Charlie

. Poor thing got the short end of the stick! She has a severe cross beak, a single comb, 6 toes on one foot, she was covered in lice, and she has an abscess in her mouth. She belonged to my friend who gave her to me for free. I don't think she realized she was so bad! She bred Icelynn so I know she doesn't breed bad birds I think this one just got screwed over genetics wise haha.

I also picked up the frizzled cochin at the show we went to today. Poor thing is a double frizzle and will always look like this, but she should make some nice sizzle babies for me!

Haha Ok thanks, so should I focus on breeding the black boy, rather than the blue? Or is it just personal reference?

Had a newbie silkie question: in silkies, are certain colors hardier or have fewer problems than others? Do different colors have different reputations?

I know in some animals, there are certain traits that tend to be color linked like deafness in white cats with blue eyes. I was wondering if there were any differences between the silkie colors that I should take into consideration.
