Aww, well his name is for sure Sheldon then. This is "Sheldon Chicken Cooper II"All of his siblings hatched on a Friday and Saturday, by the next Monday she still had 4 eggs under her. I candled them on Monday and no movement, but left them for another day. On Tuesday I went to check them and she was off the nest showing her other two littles how to eat.. Little Sheldon was pipped and zipped and chirping but his egg was dried out. It was 45 degrees out. I rushed him into the incubator with the other 3 eggs. I wrapped him in a damp paper towel, and when it was damp enough, gently peeled the small end of the egg off where I could see his beak. He had pipped the small end. I decided the best thing for him would be to put him back under momma with the other three eggs, not holding out much hope for him. The next day I hesitantly looked under her thinking the worst, and there was a tiny little blue bumble bee. He didn't have his land legs yet, so I left him alone. The other three eggs never hatched. By Thursday I tossed them. All the babies are inside in a brooder now, since she was a first time mom and lost interest. He is still smaller than everyone else, but strong as an ox. Perfect little toes and a bit of feathering on every one. I think he will always be little.![]()
