all I could find were of them at about 7-8 months . But I remember mine being a darkblue almost black / gray coloring - with the light dot on thier heads -- they had barreing showing when they first started growing wings . like a partridge shows patterns in the new growth of young wings ~~~Tammy

it just makes me angry out of 6 eggs I got two chicks and its not even what I paid for. UGH! It irks me alot...I REALLY wanted the cuckoo coloring in my flock because I LOVE the way they look.

ETA: I sent the seller of the eggs I bought a e-mail...with pics attached I can't wait to see what they say back.

was just saying, that standard and show quality changes, and drops alot over time, as i know in dogs they tend to get mentally and physically stunted. so how do you know the show quality birds are like the original breed (or do some of you eat or just test your culls/extra roos)? my neighbor who has given me some dutch eggs, used to have some silkies, and he said like some on here, they will just sit there in one spot and die from sun, rain, and not knowing to go eat if food not put close in small area. also his would sit but crush eggs, and if did move would just stay were was to long and eggs would be lost, or would just sit on eggs and they would smother or cook or whatever. im not saying bad about dutch, im just trying to learn more over opinions as never worked with, but curious (though if anything like these two cochin chicks, ill be pleased). i wouldnt want to lose any cause i put out in pen, and they couldnt thin even a bit for selves, as then id just keep as caged cuddly house pets.

also i see alot of silkie other types of birds, so wondering how to tell from looking quick whish is which, and if easiy to confuse, even if mixes show up at shows?

Sounds like silkies whose feathers covered their eyes and they couldn't see. They can act a bit dim in that case. I trimmed the fluff around my silkies eyes and they all perked up and started acting more lively and active. Now I trim about once a month and they act more like 'chickens'.

As you already noted, it is possible to interbreed anything to the point that they are affected intelligence wise. If a bird has been bred to the point of not knowing what they need to do to remain alive then that's taking line breeding too far and its time to bring in new genetics.

Some Silkies don't mind the rain and actually play in it. Any bird that has not encountered rain in a long time will freeze in place not knowing what it is. Most will return to the coop.

There is no doubt when it comes to knowing a pure Silkie from one that is mixed with another breed so that is never an issue.
