Silkie thread!

Father was white, mother was splash

apparently both carrying a partridge gene. You could also breed the blue to splash to get some splash (and blues). Don't know how the gold leakage would work in that. I wouldn't think it wouldn't show in the splash, but maybe in the blues. Then, you maybe could keep the blues that don't have the leakage. I'm not totally sure if that will weed out the gold gene. I'm afraid that since my splash had the gold leakage blue chicks, that they always will? Maybe they won't, if the roo that I have for them now doesn't have the gold gene. I'm not good at genetics!

Gold gene does not cause leakage; You always have either gold or silver, and both can leak. Lack of meanizers causes leakage. Silver would not show on splash, but gold would. Both silver and gold show on blue or black.

Lost my first Silkie last night:'( She was the outcast. The others wouldn't let her roost with them and she was always last to eat. I don't know how she died. It was -40 here so that might have been a factor. She wasn't cold tho...???

Thanks. You know I don't care if they have gold leakage I have silver my self.LOL. They are pets. One of them is always the first to greet me when I open the coop door. I have some one wanting to trade me his white silkie flock 1 roo, 4 hens and a frizzle hen for one of my turkeys. I think I'm going to do it. The turkey will be used to breed not eat so I can except that. My turkeys share the barn with my LF flock and can get rough with them at times.

Wow! You always come across the frizzles! I'm jealous :)

Thanks! I'm getting a black with silver leakage roo to go with my paint pullet in Feb. Will be selling a black with gold that I originally got to go with her, before I knew that he would give the Paints the "champagne" color that they sometimes get.

That's so awesome!! We've got 2 under a momma now that look about the same! When is your hatch day and GOOD LUCK!! We are going crazy waiting!!

Our hatch date is the 19th, she has a couple from a day or so after so roughly the 19th. :) I gave them all to Snow. Ashes is with the flock in the box in the den. She is just to inexperienced. I may let her try again in the summer when things aren't so complicated with weather.

I can't wait to hear!! 21 days for ours puts ours on the 11th!! We have never done this so we have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Do you know whether silkies are pretty true to the 21 days or do they take longer?

silkies normally, along with other bantams, hatch 1 day early, so you will prob hear cheeping and get a pip on day 19, and hatching on day 20. all my silkies for the new years hatch hatched on the 31st, and all my other breeds hatched the 1st.
