QUESTION!!!! I have a gorgeous splash that I most definitely want to breed from, she is about 4mos old so I have some time... My question is, she has fabulous coloring and I want to eliminate the rust on her wings, so is my best bet to breed to white or shall I go ahead and do splash x splash? The rust is minimal but I want clean splash.

I am a bit behind, but I do not see where this was answered. Breeding White into Splash will not "clean up" the Splash.. it will mess up the genetics. Genetic colors do not mix like paint. White is two copies of recessive White hiding every genetic possibility under it. No clue what you will get - but the chances of cleaning up the red leakage are almost none. If you want to remove the rust-red leakage (and its probably a male and not a female if there is red leakage on the wings) you will want to breed to black and use only the birds that snow no leakage. Once you have removed the red you can breed splash to splash or splash to blue or splash to black.. and work from there.

Im a new silkie lady here, question...I've heard a lot about the color "pure black" being favorable in silkies and I was just wondering does that mean black with no other shades to it?, I'm assuming?....Both my black silkie hens have a weird shade of green to them, is that common? I have never seen that before. They're parents are a black rooster and a splash hen. Any comments back would be appreciated

Black is supposed to have a green sheen. Your hen is not a splash if you got a black child. This is my blue chart:


As you can see - splash to black equals blue. Never Black.

It's not recommended to breed partridge with blue you can get unrecognized mix colors and leakage. But adorable still.

here is the splash I was referring to, he/she(?) has some stellar splash going on but the rust makes me sad, only 17wks old so we haven't split up the brood

I am wondering if someone out there could help me with the possibilities of crossing a black silkie roo with a bantam white frizzle... My understanding is that 50% will have frizzled feathers, right? But what about the colors?
