Silkie thread!

Is there anything different about silkies' hatching eggs versus other hatching eggs? Are they typically difficult? I've just been assuming treat them like regular old chicken eggs? The previous poster has me guessing lol.

I have hatched out 100's of silkies and they are pretty much the same as any breed. Apart from the occasional splayed legs ( which is relatively easily fixed ) they are no different. I will say that I have had them hatch as early as day 18, just to keep you on your toes. They will sometimes hatch with ' vaulted skull ' , just keep them separate from your LF for the first 5-6 weeks and they should be fine.
They really are delightful little creatures.

Yes that can happen. I've only had it happen once here and i had to cut the dead chick away from momma. Most hens will peck there belly feathers out towards the end of incubation. Mine was just a case of the roo pestering momma and the chick got caught up in the fracas . As with all chicks you just need to be vigilant and check them regularly.

They look to possibly be Buff. Might turn out to be white. I don't know what types of Silkies TSC usually sells though.

We are picking up our little babies this WED.. I am a bit nervous as I am only getting two and really need them to be pullets. Someone told me to get a few more on the off chance they would be Roo's and I would be able to see them easy . Any last min thoughts as to what to compare them to ? I am getting them from a local place.

Hello silkie breeders

. I am fairly new to the bantam world, I had bantam Cochins for a while when I first got into chickens but have since migrated to LF breeds. I'm getting into Silkies and am wondering if there's anything special I need to consider when setting up breeding pens, watering, etc? Starting out I plan to keep them in an extra pen in my breeding coop, but this summer I plan to build an addition to my coop, so the sky's the limit (that sounds dangerous LOL).
I'm going to be raising Porcelains, so when I'm setting up breeding pens, do you only match Porcelains to Porcelains, or are there other acceptable varieties to mix porcelains with to achieve the desired offspring?
