Silkie thread!

Hello Sanna,
I am looking for PQ with some SQ features (pullet only). Thank you for the Roo offer but, I'm not allowed to have Roos (per order of my hubby...lol). I have two daughters that would really like to raise a Silkie each.

These guys were only 2 days old when I put them in with Bun. They huddled under her for warmth. She was only a baby too and had been rejected by our other rabbit, maple. We have now introduced the other rabbit and they are all getting along famously. The duck is fast outgrowing it's siblings though.

We call them ' the Disney gang ' cause it's like something out of a children's book. The ducks name is Walter.

So so cute!

If your daughters are looking to raise a Silkie from a little chick, you won't know gender until 3,4,5, months, sometimes even longer I've heard. Silkies take a long time to mature.

Check out Connecticut Poultry Swap and Chat group

Someone there I think had unsexed Silkie chicks available.

There's also the Connecticut Poultry Breeders Society https://www.facebook.com/groups/295353210582864/

These are also good groups to follow.

Good luck!

Oh my God, I haven't been on here for so long that I have 450 pages worth of reading to do. lol Probably might consider skipping most of it. hehe I set some eggs in the incubator, I think we're going on day 6 or 7 now. I'm SO excited about hatching these eggs it's so ridiculous!! :lau This is my first time breeding my own birds and I'm very interested to see what I get. I'm hoping I picked some good birds for my first BBS pen. :) Only sad thing is that looks like there's only 8 fertile out of two dozen.. Last year I had 0 fertile eggs, but the problem might have been my cockerel who was very young then. This year I didn't think to trim butts...but now that I know what my fertility percentage is, I'll be going out for bum patrol soon! LOL I'll set another batch of eggs once this first one hatches. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the next hatch. What do you guys think?? Daddy, Ace Blue hen, Iris Last year, Iris mothered 3 chicks that needed a mommy. These were pet chicks that somehow ended up here at the farm. Being a non-profit rescue farm, we get all sorts of animals dropped off. My black hen, Missy. She's very young in these two pictures still. I think she was barely a year, she's 2 this year. I better take some new pictures! lol Then there's little Lila. She's an excellent broody hen also, best momma bird I've ever seen. The other two hens are better quality, I think, but Lila has better feet than any of my other birds and over all, I didn't think she looks that bad. And! These are the only BBS birds I have! lol Gotta start somewhere, right? :D
Very nice.

Thank you Sanna and Subhanalah for all that info! SilkieMom8875 I would love to buy some from you! Do you have any pictures? Are they chicks or older? I know it's hard to tell the sex when their chicks so if I get a roo it's all good. I would much rather prefer to buy from an individual and not a factory (hatchery). I am not downing hatcheries but our family is vegetarian and I just get nervous with big corporations/breeding quality and sickness :(

Here is my youngest with "Princess Bubblegum" our Barred Rock chick :)

What a great picture!

I would recommend buying from a breeder or a private person vs. hatchery. Especially if you're looking for a good quality bird, even PQ with SQ features as you said. The hatchery birds lack quality from what I've seen.
