Oh my God, I haven't been on here for so long that I have 450 pages worth of reading to do. lol Probably might consider skipping most of it. hehe
I set some eggs in the incubator, I think we're going on day 6 or 7 now. I'm SO excited about hatching these eggs it's so ridiculous!!This is my first time breeding my own birds and I'm very interested to see what I get. I'm hoping I picked some good birds for my first BBS pen.
Only sad thing is that looks like there's only 8 fertile out of two dozen.. Last year I had 0 fertile eggs, but the problem might have been my cockerel who was very young then. This year I didn't think to trim butts...but now that I know what my fertility percentage is, I'll be going out for bum patrol soon! LOL I'll set another batch of eggs once this first one hatches. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the next hatch.![]()
What do you guys think??
Daddy, Ace
Blue hen, Iris
Last year, Iris mothered 3 chicks that needed a mommy. These were pet chicks that somehow ended up here at the farm. Being a non-profit rescue farm, we get all sorts of animals dropped off.
My black hen, Missy. She's very young in these two pictures still. I think she was barely a year, she's 2 this year. I better take some new pictures! lol
Then there's little Lila. She's an excellent broody hen also, best momma bird I've ever seen. The other two hens are better quality, I think, but Lila has better feet than any of my other birds and over all, I didn't think she looks that bad. And! These are the only BBS birds I have! lol Gotta start somewhere, right?![]()
