And last is Felicity. Her legs are going to be amputated. Vet said apparently past the knee is too far gone. So we will see if that will help. If it doesn't she will be euthanized. I've seen where they can adapt to stubs. I hate the idea. But she will be an inside chicken for the rest of her life.

I have rehomed silas, emery, 2 chicks, and roman. Due to they have crooked beak in genes. Luckily they will pets.

I now am starting over. None of the chicks I have now are related to that family. So wish me luck lol

I would not amputate her legs that's no life for a chicken I think it would be better to let her have crooked toes. Does she get around ok? Is she still growing? Get some vitamins in her. I feel bad for her.

I was hoping to add the Silkie breed to my coop, and possibly breed later next year. Could anyone tell me what a good starter variety would be? I had a pair of Blue-Cremes but my rooster died. I'm hoping to become involved in a variety that's already been established. I like whites and buffs, but I've read that the genetics involved can be a little difficult. Thoughts?

Oh its getting so close and im so nervous. The chicks ship tomorrow.

this is what I have for them to go in when they get here. Does it look ok?

Also does ideal send extra chicks with the order? I ordered 9.

Looks great, you are obviously a ' planner ' . The only thing I would change is the flooring. Newspaper or paper is too slippery for chicks and can create problems like ' slipped hocks ' . I use paper towel for the first 7-10 days then I use oaten chaff. This link gives you other options.

I'd like to add I would not center the lights, I'd move them both over to one side about 6"?

When's a good time to kick my last 3 chicks into the coop with the others? They are a month old and getting fluffier now. I just took away their lamp all together even at night, and they've been sleeping in the shed. But im thinking about putting them with the rest of the flock to keep warm. I figure they'll be plenty warm enough when they are all borrowed together at night anyway. Its not too cold at night anymore. What do you think, would they should be fine?
