So do you think my guesses are correct?
What color u think my tiniest chicks are?

Also...
I have 10 chickens.
Ichabod the splash infertile roo
Silas the crooked beak porcelain who won't be bred.
Lydia the blue hen
Kira the blue hen?
Cora the porcelain not to breed.
Felicity won't breed partridge. Deformed feet.
Karma? Chick baby youngest
Amy? Karma twin chick
Stefan blue chick
Damon black chick

Well I was going to separate pens. One for breeding. The other not.

Silas, Cora, and Felicity will go in that pen. Silas doesn't bother felicity and neither does the chicks. Felicity has stubs as feet. Long story.

But I'm over runner with roosters.
In the other pen.
Ichabod, Damon, Stefan, Lydia, Kira, karma?, amy?
That's too many roos. I can rehome stefan as I'm not attached. The two chicks of lydias I'm not attacked to yet. Cuz idk if they are m or f.

What to do?

Quote: Umm. They are all the same age. All nine weeks. They lived together all their lives. BTW I just bought 2 more chicks today (not silkies) and we gave the roosters to the farm. She now lives with 3 LF pullets that are all nice to her and NO roosters. I can't have roosters in town and I wouldn't keep 4 roosters with 4 pullets.

They are ALL so cute!! I love your color variety!! I would love to have a lavender or porcelain.. I'd truly like one of each haha;)
Thank you. I love having all different colors.

OK so I just found this and HAD to share with you all. I thought it was EXTREEMELY funny.....funnier than it relly is. LOL

I hatched chicks 12/31/13 and 1/1/14. I had 3 silkies and 1 silkie cross. two of the silkies were female, and the other silkie and silkie cross were males. I never noticed this picture until just now:

the females are the two girls sitting in the back. they are the porcelain and partridge. the males are the tiny bantam silkie cross and the jumbo white sizzle. they looked like they were having some epic battle between each other or something......am I right?

Cute. I have one chick, Twista, who grooms everyone. Its really cute.

Looks like her poor beaks crooked. Cute tho
Yes it is. That is why her name is Twista. It was worse when she first got here last week, but I filed it and now she can line the top and bottom up again. Still crooked, but at least it closes. She was the PQ that was thrown in with the other chicks as an extra... She was the first I pulled out of the shipping box and by far the sweetest. Im in love.

Hi, I'm new here. I'm new to raising chicken. I started building my first chicken coop and it came out really nice for me. My first chickens are Silkie. I drove 60 miles to purchased 5 Silkie babies that are 3 days old. The person had way too many and was desperate in getting rid of his stock. Upon returning them home they did great. Two days passed and they loved my backyard, I monitored them very well until earlier today I went inside the house for 10 minutes, came out and one was missing! I looked all over for it and I'm sad because I found it carried away very far towards the back of my backyard and it's feathered completely plucked off. It has died. Something attacked it. 100% it's not a cat. I've did see a Blue Jay in the yard earlier that day. I suspect he is the culprit. I just returned from the store 9PM with a Airsoft BB Gun and tomorrow I will kill that Blue Jay.

Is this wrong? I was into a new hobby of raising my first chickens and I am deeply sadden by the lost of one of my 5 day old Silkie. I cherished all 5 alot. I even burried the dead Silkie before I went to the store and bought the BB Gun.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

I too have lost silkies to a predator. But mine is always a mink.

It only comes around about twice a year, and always seems to find a way in. I have yet to trap him/her. The first time was last summer, it got one silkie and three 10-12 week old babies we'd hatched. This year it got two of my three silkies. They died defending their babies. The brute only got two of the nine babies. I was so upset over the loss. Especially over losing my white one. She was so gorgeous and so sweet!

But, my wonderful hubby let me order more (15!) and told me our girls and I could start a silkie "business". Where we live it is soooooo hard to find silkies, unless you order them. So out of the ashes of tragedy comes hope and a new beginning. We got them last Saturday from McMurrary, 5 blue (although I think one is black), 5 white, and 5 buff. We have a run all ready. It will have extra chicken wire around the bottom, and wire strung across the top to deter flying predators (we have owls and crows). And now we're in the process of designing a coop. We're having so much fun!

And don't feel bad about the gun. We too have such protection for our flock. If you're not willing to defend them, don't have them, I always say. Good luck hunting and good luck with the rest of them.
