Silkie thread!

There are LF Silkies in the UK and surrounding areas (Europe), but not in the US yet-though they are being worked on. Only banties recognized here. However, I've seen Silkies ranging from all varieties of sizes-depending upon their origins and breeding lines. I've seen some hatchery males outsize my show boy by over two times.

It could be that these are hatchery, but they seem so nice for hatchery quality. I'm hoping all 4 don't turn out to be males! They are just our pets, no plans on showing or breeding.

well a larger silkie well lay larger eggs so at least thats a plus for eating

Ah, that was just an example. Recently, I was at a poultry show and saw many a Silkie that day. They were from countless lines and breeders. I actually saw a hen that was SO big and BEAUTIFUL! I even have a girl who was produced from showbirds and she's as big as my roo. Pretty funny to see the poor guy try and court her!

^ He's a cutie!

Bedding question for you guys, I'm moving my silkie chicks out of my house next week and into a new coop outside. Do silkies prefer a certain type of bedding? I've done straw before for my other chickens but idk if silkies like something softer like wood shavings or something? I've had silkies before and they did fine with straw but I just thought of this now lol

It really does not matter I have used both I like using wood shavings more. If I don't have wood shavings I will use straw/hay.

Thanks!

Can anyone post a picture of a new baby cuckcoo silkie?I had eight babies hatch and the buyer thought their might be some cuckcoo in the mix,she keeps all her silkies togather so she did not know for sure. Thanks

I have a question regarding Calico Silkies. The Calico is not a recognized variety so what is the standard for it (if that's the term)? I have seen pictures and have fallen head over heels. Can all of you BYCer's out there show pictures of their Calico's and someone maybe explain what the hen & the cockerel are supposed to look like?
