Silkie thread!

I have a question on silkie chicks. I hatched someone else's chicks and they just so happened to be frizzle and other odd silkies... so far in the last week 3 have died! What am I doing wrong! Do they need allot of room? Sometimes they fall over and cant get back up... I put 11 under the broody Serama Hen she gave me and she has accepted them and surprisingly can fit them all under her. But I still have 2 silkies left and I think 2 more hatching soon What do I do? They are hard to keep alive!

This link is for all breeds alike. Read through it and you may be able to do some of your own ' troubleshooting ' . The first week of a chicks life can be touch and go but broody mommas are usually pretty good at their job. Cocci also kills very quickly.

Silkies hatch in the normal 21 days right? Not sooner? Just checking as someone told me they hatch at 18 days. (I know some variation is normal but looking for what the accepted norm is)

If you want i can give you a number for very good quality silkies they are in Texas but they ship . I got these last week
400

I'll take the info too if you don't mind

My bedding is always cleaned. I clean it 2 times a week. Or until I see poop. OCD kicks into high gear with dirty beds...

It doesn't really matter how clean your pens are coccidia are in the soil. That is why most people start their chicks on medicated feed, to help them build immunity. If you are seeing to all their other requirements and they are dying in numbers I would start them on corid/ amprolium ASAP.
