I free range silkies and heritage Rhode Island Reds. Always have for many years. There is plenty of room for every one to stay out of the way of the dominate hens. Recently I started penning the separate breeds in their own pens at night. Every one has more room to roost or pile in peace now. Silkie mama's with chicks are kept separate from the main flock for about a week until the chicks are following and listening well. Also, silkie chicks need shallow water dishes. They drown in water deeper than an inch.

The way that one is giving ya the side eye makes me thing boy too!! All my Roos have done that !! Anytime one does it on a regular basis now I usually smh,face palm then grumble your a lil rooster aren't ya! Have 7 silkies now & leaning towards 4 roosters

. I kno one is for certain the others will take time lol 3 diff age groups!

I just realized my Silkie boys do that too. Hmm interesting

Every breed of rooster I've had gives me "the look". Cracks me up when the bantams do it.

Lol I'll be sure to watch for that side eye look don't you wish we could look at the egg and know what's in it before we hatch! There has to be a way!

I kno right would be great !!! The lil silkie side eye is the best just not when it's the only look 90% of em give ya ...lol! I have one that's about 16 weeks & I change my mind every other day about gender...I wonder if it's a roo "hiding" from my other roo..will post pics as soon as I can get some good ones for opinions.
