Oh, how sad for your DH - there isn't enough meat on a rabbit to remedy a hard time - after eating the rabbit the times will still continue to be hard! My DH won't allow us to process any of our hens and does his best to rehome even the mean ones. I suppose in my mind I understood why my Mom couldn't keep the ducklings forever in the backyard but it might've been nice if she prepared me for what she was planning instead of just plopping down duck soup in front of us! My sis and I had a few issues with her until the day she died - we loved and took care of her and knew she loved us too but there were just some things about her farm background that made her just a bit too hard-hearted for us two softie sisters. Maybe she thought she was toughening us up for life but that philosophy doesn't necessarily work well on sensitive children.
I never lost that sensitivity. my mother was in the military and was hard but always respected that i was overly sensitive and still am as an adult. some people just are that way and being exposed to "hard" things doesnt change that.

I'm not sure if anyone can give me the exact answer I'm looking for but I'm open to any advice or suggestions. I have a 7 month old white silkie girl who over the last few weeks has been having some really alarming behavior . I first noticed she seemed to be carrying her wings lower or not tight to her body . I observed her & looked her over well..couldn't find anything wrong but I gave her broad spectrum antibotic just in case . No real change but then I found her stuck under the ramp wings out flailing about . Hubby convinced me she just got herself stuck not that she flailed herself under there. We got her out she walked into coop by herself . So today I find her flailing about in run again laying down out in open..I picked her up & she started walking around on her own. Her wings still aren't held tight to her body. No one else has any of these problems . I'm not sure what to do for her . I'm really concerned because a coworker of my hubby had some a few months older than mine & she told him 2 outta 3 died of a neurological problem (well one died the other was put down ) .i spoke w/ owner/breeder (lady we got them from)after I heard about the death of the first one & she told me she put it down because she recognized it as the same neurological condition she had w/ her white silkies in the past . Mine w/ the issue is white

...could this be the problem she spoke of ? Can issues like that be specific to a color such as white?

Hello, I am new to this thread. Just got my first batch of Silkies from someone who was giving them away on Craigslist for free. Just wanted to share pictures and maybe get some feedback. He said they are about 20 weeks old and that they were kept in a cage in a basement up until now. :/ I have had them in a small run outside for a few days. They seem to be doing well, especially after they had a bath. I left them out today to see how they would do with the rest of my large girls. They did wonderfully, I am so pleasantly surprised. Any ideas on what their coloring is? I think the larger buff one might be a roo but I hope not. She/he was the most defensive of the bigger chickens.

!! I can't zoom in in pics so I can't give good guesses on gender but from whst I can tell looks like mostly girls . The buff does have upright stance but at 20 weeks you should be able see some streamers on the crest or msyb even hear crowing my guys started crowing around then & became more consistent by 26 weeks. Does the buff have a big comb?
