CRD is chronic and not cureable.  Will Denaguard really ensure resistance to manifesting symptoms?  I mean even with a vitamin regimen our little girl seems to come down with CRD every winter.  Have you used Denaguard successfully for preventing recurring episodes of CRD in your flock?  I am willing to try anything and everything to keep her healthy but each year's attack is worse than the previous episode and vet says damage occurs each time.  The Denaguard is worth a try.  Is it by vet prescription or available OTC and do you recommend it for the entire flock whether they show symptoms or not?

You treat the entire flock, 7 days in there drinking water once a month. Very affective. You only need 8cc per gallon of water. If they come down with it or show symptoms then you treat those with 16cc in a gallon of water. Prevents the spreading of the disease threw the eggs and all.

I can not say I have had any personal experience using Denaguard as I have not had CRD in my flock. But I do tons of reading and I have read a lot on illnesses and if you are sure your dealing with Mycoplasma disease I would hands down get the Denaguard. It's once a month dose to prevent it and from what I have read works amazingly well. It is bitter so you have to sweeten the water to get them to drink it and you don't need a prescription you can buy it on line. There is several threads discussing Denaguard on here I would say it's worth checking it out. And I would give it to the whole flock if that's what your dealing with they all have it. I read a thread where a lady said she breed it out of her flock by using the Denaguard because they didn't get sick and shed the disease to spread it to the new birds. Thanks. She apparently decided that she wasn't ready so I didn't give her any eggs and we took away the four Silkie eggs she sat on for a day and night. I thought that she was too young.

I guess that she doesn't agree that she is too young as yesterday she spent sitting again. This morning I switched out the seven Silkie eggs for one standard egg laid this morning and left the wooden egg as well. I will replace the wooden egg later this morning with a couple standard eggs. She did not seem disturbed at all by my switching out of eggs. I will need to check under her every day that we don't gather 3 Silkie eggs from the others to make sure she isn't getting extras.

I mark my eggs with a permanent marker, I make a little x on the air sack end so I don't get them mixed up. Best of luck!

Thanks! I did that the only other time that we had a broody pullet as she was in a coop with others. However this time I won't need to mark the eggs as the Silkie eggs are cream colored and smaller than the NH (or maybe one BR) eggs I am putting under her. Since I only know the pen and not the specific hen contributing the eggs, I am only marking the calendar.

I have had soooo many people and discussions on permanent markers some believe it leaks into the egg, some beleive it's toxic so rediculous the stories and theories that people beleive is wrong with markers.


I can't tell you for a FACT I have been using permanent marker for 6 years on every egg with no affect. On my eggs I put what coop they came from, the date I put them in the bator , the date they are due plus my x and o. Lol practically the entire egg is covered with marker lol.

I actually had one person. Refuse to buy eggs from me until I marked them with a pen! Really!! Pen ink I think is just as bad as a marker if you beleive markers are bad lol. I do not so it doesn't matter to me.

Same here. I mark all my eggs with similar info on each egg as you, with permanent sharpie markers. I bought a variety pack with about 12 different colors, I love them. They are designated as my egg markers ONLY. My family is not allowed to use them lol. I mark separate eggs and separate batches with different colors, comes in especially handy when I am doing staggered hatches.
