Silkie thread!

Aw that's a real bummer. I hope you will get your Silkies someday.

Thank you chickin pickin, the person I got the eggs from offered to send more. I told her that we need to wait until after the holidays because the first eggs got delayed somewhere and ended up sitting at a post office over the weekend. I was suppose to get them on a Wed. ended up getting them on the following Mon.

That's a good idea to wait past the holidays the temp help will be off to, myself and another lady I know recieved boxes that were dented and smashed in. Never had that happen with USPS before, they're usually careful. I had 15 out of 27 make it to lockdown and 3 of them have horrible saddle air cells. This is the end of day 21 and one chick has hatched so far.

I have a two day old chick in the house in a brooder, my two six month olds are acting very strange one keeps charging the door to get in the house. They haven't layed any eggs yet of their own yet. But I'm wondering if she's trying to get in to mother the baby and would she if given the chance?

Silkies are known to be good adoptive mothers. It wouldn't surprise me if that's what she really wants. Maybe it's time to arrange a "supervised visit"?

One of my Silkie hens decided to sit a few weeks ago, so I gave her 3 eggs. A couple of days after I gave her those eggs, I had 3 7 week old chicks that were ready to go into the coop. She left her eggs and started mothering them :/ much to their dismay. They're a pretty tight knit little family now, but those chickies were double confused when the hen was trying to "roll" them under her and sit on them :gig

I love it, I bet that was fun to watch!!! I will give it a try after I get the Christmas dinner going. Crazy hen can't walk out the back door without her bolting in. The couple of times she's made it in she runs around the house. Of all the days for chicken antics, LOL! Thank you Desert Chick and Howfunkyisyourchicken, Happy Holidays!

Stopped fighting her at the door grabbed an empty Christmas box put a cozy blanket in it and some shredded paper she settled in and laid her first egg! Then carried on loudly about it till everyone came to look at it and she's back outside and back to her normal self. That's why she was following me around so much. We really thought Freedom was a Roo, nice surprise!
