Thank you. Those 2 are the best from the first cross, I have more but they are not showing as much color...I can hardly wait to see how the second generation turns out..it will take several generation before I get them where I want them...but what fun it will be along the way!!

Do you have a picture of Mom and Dad you could post? Would love to see them!

Here is my Cuckoo Baby. I posted him on another silkie thread, and someone said he looked like a Hamster with a beak. I thought that was so funny.

No, I don't have pic of the parents, but parents are cuckoo roo over a overly red partridge hen(she didn't have much penciling).
I have pics of other half siblings(cuckoo) on the Cuckoo silkie thread, you may have already seen them.

anyone be able and willing to show picks of young cockrels and pullets??? i have these three silkies that one was guessed to be cockerel, but my roos try to court and mate just like other two, and it has no interest in doing any roo things and just hangs with rest of hens doing what the do and taking gifts from the cockrels, occassionally tussling with the other hens which the roos dont do ever, even though they do get beat up by the hens.

Anyone here have these books:

GENETICS OF CHICKEN COLOURS and SILKIES AND SILKIE BANTAMS by Sigrid Van Dort

I am interested in getting them, but can't find where to order... Any help???

Thanks!!!!

Splash will provide all chicks with a copy of the blue gene. There is no way to predict what a white may supply, other than one copy of the (recessive) white gene. White hides many things as it turns off the display of genes that are present in the bird. Every white can give a different result.

chickencolours.com has links for ordering Genetics of Chicken Colours; in the US it is through Jerry Schniedeker (I'm almost positive I spelled that wrong), president of the Serama club. Order Silkies and Silkie Bantams through the American Silkie Bantam Club. Pretty sure that there are still silkie books available; pretty sure that there are at most only a few (and likely none) of the genetics book still available.

Okay, I had looked on the website for the club, but they don't have it listed in the store. I will send an email to see if they still have copies it.

Thanks!!

Our little Sascha had a rough morning and was beaten up by our alpha roo, who has since been sequestered in a private pen until we figure out what we're gonna do with him. We brought her in, and she had poop ALL over her. She gets poop on her fuzzybutt all the time anyway, but this time she had it everywhere from being tossed around by Rico the Roo. Poor little girl needed a bath.

Farmer Lew whips out one of my mixing bowls and bathes said chicken. It's no longer a mixing bowl.
