Silkie thread!

All the pictures here are wonderful. I am new to silkies and have a white roo, 1 white hen and 2 black hens. These chicks hatch yesterday and also have 2 other that look white under the hens and a dark almost black with silver running through that just hatched in the incubator. Will these colors stay the same as they grow? what do you call each color? Thanks

White recessive x white recessive will always produce white. Your white x blacks will be blacks that may leak. If the white male carries partridge when he is crossed to one of your blacks that also carries partridge, you may also get partridge. Your chick on the right looks partridge. The middle chick looks white. The silver/grey chick could go black with leakage. They are beautiful chicks.

Silkie chicks change color continuously. Even after each yearly molt they can change.

The one on the left is a partridge. The others white should be white, black should be black. The grey looking one not sure.

Welcome! Where are you located and maybe someone from your area will chime in. Also you can go to your state thread and look for a breeder there.

I live in Mt and we want some silkies really bad. We are trying hard to hatch but we keep getting eggs that are broken or don't seem to be fertilized we are just starting a 2nd set but most of them were broken so we only ended up with 3. We are also trying to hatch call ducks but want the silkies more

Silkies are harder to hatch. Good luck. Hopefully someone from your area will see your posts. I luve a little too far away to help. Sorry. :(

I haven't noticed my Silkies being harder to hatch. Now shipped eggs, which seems to be what Tsmom is dealing with, are a royal pain.
I'm too far away too, sorry :/

Thank you for the information. I never knew there was so much to learn about Silkies. They are so cute and tiny. Our power went off for about 10 minutes tonight and they cried and cried until I put a flashlight in their box and covered it. When the power came back on one was curled up to the light! Precious!
