partridge color with red patches on wings. I understand that is an indicator of cockerels?

"headdress" standing up?

Please excuse the messy towel. Just changed it. But you know these kids today!

Thank you for that info. The parents are from the same farm but said not to be closely related. I could see how they could be though. What should I do with the 6 toed? Would it likely be passed on if I breed them to birds from a definite different family? If am to sell them are they worth anything like on Craigslist? Are these considered pet quality?

Unless you are looking to show your birds , I wouldn't worry too much about an extra toe. Line breeding is quite common in poultry breeding. :)

hey! i am just getting into silkies. i just love them! here are my chicks! i also have 15 eggs in the incubator now.
can someone help me with this ones color?
white
black
silver partridge NN

porcelain
splash
blue
buff

Yes they aren't feathering much on their legs and feet. And thank you for your tact.... I know they aren't show quality birds. As long as they are healthy, that's what matters to me. And yes their ear lobes are quite blue! What does that mean? Bad mix in the woodpile somewhere? Lol

Black and white silkies can have blue to turquoise lobes and other colours like partridge , blue , buff and grey will usually be various shades of turquoise .

I should also add that as birds age their lobes lighten dramatically in colour. My white roo is 7 years old and his lobes are much lighter now.

Great info. And thanks for the link. I've saved it so I can learn more. If I decide to get any more silkies (who can have just two?? LOL) I'll know what features to look for, at least to tell if its more true to standard or not.
