Silkie thread!

it has started to try to attack when you go close to the coop n when you open the door to let them free range does a hen normally act like that
How does it attack you? Does it run at you or fluff up or anything like that? Roosters fluff up their hackles usually when they attack, so if it does that it's probably a roo. Also, some hens will jump on you, I have a silkie hen who constantly hops at me, so could be a hen. Can you post a close up picture of it's face? (so I can see the comb better)

Someone on this thread said the vaulted skulls are more susceptible to injury.  Silkies are vulnerable to head pecks or head injuries but if I understand correctly the vaulted skull is more vulnerable.  Any input anyone?

I have not heard this. The only trouble I've had with the vaulted skulls are during hatch time. Sometimes the vaulted skull makes it harder for them to get their head under their wing to pip the egg properly. Most of the silkie eggs that do not hatch are very vaulted when I eggtopsied them. But I do like how fluffy it makes them look! I've had no head pecking issues in my silkie flock though. :)

What are they?

Hi. The di-methox just came. How much do I give her for a 10 week old silkie?

The dosage should be on the bottle.
1 oz to 2 gallons of water. If you are treating just the one bird , you will need to calculate a much smaller amount, say 1/4 oz in 1/2 a gallon or 1/8 of an ounce in 1/4 of a gallon.
Treatment is 5 consecutive days and the solution must be made fresh each day. Be sure that there is no other drinking source available.

That is correct. Vaulted skull birds are more susceptible to peck injuries. The brain is just under the skin and is not afforded the protection of the skull, that non vaulted birds have.
