I am on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica (Puerto Viejo) and looking for some more "Silkies." I'd appreciate a note if you have seen any around here lately.

That sounds a lot like what I have to do. The Am. chicks that are in with them have got the whole "go in the coop at night" the Silkies rather sleep out side. Maybe they will take a hint from the Am. chicks.City Chicks,
How old are your Silkies? Mine would all huddle in a corner on the bottom of their coop run and I would worry they would get too cold. Every night I would carry each of them into their coop. Finally in September when they were 6 months old they all started going into their coop at night where it was warmer. They finally figured it out on their own!! I put put a big rock under their ramp to elevate it a bit....I figured it might have been to steep for them. But, I think they just figured it out on their own. Now each night they go into the coop on their own.
I wonder if Silkies are "slow" learners. LOL! They don't like ramps much either, but mine eventually went up the ramp on their own. Maybe in time yours will as well, especially when they see the other chicks go up to the coop at night. I bet they will eventually go up into the coop on their own. That sounds a lot like what I have to do. That is funny!!! So true! But they make up with their cuteness. And they are so incredibly sweet!! I love my Silkies...they're the best!Just not as agile as some breeds. With feathered feet , extra toes and a hood over your eyes , you'd be a tad clumsy too.![]()
