Silkie thread!

@City Chicks 13 I would lock them inside the coop for the 5 days with enough food and water and without a heat lamp. They will be fine and also since you mentioned they are not coop trained after being locked up for 5 days it may help them go back in the coop on their own. I usually lock mine up in the coop for 5-7 days when they first go outside so they know where home is. Good luck!

City Chicks,
How old are your Silkies? Mine would all huddle in a corner on the bottom of their coop run and I would worry they would get too cold. Every night I would carry each of them into their coop. Finally in September when they were 6 months old they all started going into their coop at night where it was warmer. They finally figured it out on their own!! I put put a big rock under their ramp to elevate it a bit....I figured it might have been to steep for them. But, I think they just figured it out on their own. Now each night they go into the coop on their own.

That sounds a lot like what I have to do. The Am. chicks that are in with them have got the whole "go in the coop at night" the Silkies rather sleep out side. Maybe they will take a hint from the Am. chicks.

I wonder if Silkies are "slow" learners. LOL! They don't like ramps much either, but mine eventually went up the ramp on their own. Maybe in time yours will as well, especially when they see the other chicks go up to the coop at night. I bet they will eventually go up into the coop on their own.

I was so worried they never would "learn".....and so relieved when they finally did!!

Just not as agile as some breeds. With feathered feet , extra toes and a hood over your eyes , you'd be a tad clumsy too. :lau
