Silkie thread!

How many roosters do you have?

None that I'm 100% sure on. My big ones were all bought sexed and we got all pullets, but the ones I hatched, I'm not sure about yet. We're not supposed to have Roos in my area, but you can hear them all over my neighborhood. Really, though there's only one I'd have to TRY to keep if he ended up a roo; my Singleton Serama, Zippy. I hatched some more Seramas for him, but he still prefers to hang with the Silkies. He's pretty special to us even if he is super weird looking. Lol

My roosters started crowing yesterday. Does that mean that I should keep an eye out for eggs? (From the hens. I know. Set myself up for some good jokes, there.)

Not necessarily. My 5 month old silkie rooster crowed today, but I won't be looking for eggs from his sister for a while. Silkies are slow growers.
Someone on BYC said their silkie rooster began crowing at 3 weeks

I bought my Silkies from a garden store, and they started laying eggs when they were six months old. From my three girls I get about 2-3 eggs everyday (except now 2 have gone broody and are sitting on fertilized eggs I purchased for them!).

Don't take my word as final though; I'm suspicious of all Silkies until they lay. Still trying to figure out my own.

Same, ive got a buff, blue laced bantam that is quite roo like, hes got a walnut comb, but hes still quite pretty. hes actually my favorite. But my dad really hates the sound of a roosters crow, and wont keep him if he truly is a roo. so im praying that Nugget ( my buff blue laced suspected roo) turns out to be a female.

Thanks. I had been assuming they wouldn't be laying soon. (Especially with the days getting shorter.) But, I was wondering when I should start keeping an eye out. I haven't even been checking their boxes at all besides for cleaning. I'd hate to have them start laying and just have eggs sitting in there or worse, getting broken. I think I have two hens. Four birds, but I'm sure two of them are Roos.
