So true! But I meant care. I need to know how to care for these birds before I raise them.

I think they are pretty much just like caring for any other chicks with the exception that some have vaulted skulls which makes them more susceptible to brain injuries.

@ jeansrie, this sounds like a horrible idea. I think you need to send your little maurader girl to iowa so she can come live with me ;)
@Jeansrie one of my favorite girls is blossoming into... a beautiful boy :/ Probably going to do a test mating with him over my little Marauder girl. I ended up with so many boys I had to re-home a couple of them that I was not going to breed from. At this point I am hoping I have at least 2 girls out of the 11.

It is so funny to hear owners are trimming their Silkies. I have two hens that will nibble each other's face fluff just around the eyes only so they can see. Since my two girls do it for each other I thought it was a common Silkie thing and never figured I needed to do it for them LOL.
Mine do that too... I thought they were being mean at first but it kept happening and not with the same hen so I watched closely and realized what was going on and stopped interfering.

Any tips for silkie chicks?
IMHO no medicated feed. after 2 weeks of age. Some don't feed it at all but in my experiences up to 2 weeks worked better for me.

Rub them on your face. 'Cause they're so soft.

yep that's right.... do that, I do...

@VillaRosaAcres I just trimmed Princess Marauder's crest last night... it was huge and I felt bad for her lol. She looks terrible right now though so this is how I want to remember her, and I will never trim another crest... I will tape them up from now on lol.

I am so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just found my first silkie eggs!!! found 3 but think only one is laying!!
My mom said that you don't know if they are a cockerel or pullet till they crow or lay and egg. We thought "Anna" was a boy, but no she laid an egg. Now there is an egg song symphony going on so probably more than one is laying.
