Silkie thread!

Ahhhh White, surprise white

I see, are pullets being thrown in the rusty red as well? "The resulting pullets have beautiful coloration"

The pullets came out chesnut colored with tons of pencilling. I had a clue that my whites had carried it already. For years I have gotten a random partridge here and there from only white pens. I got my hands on some cockerels out of amazing bloodlines and wanted the body type from my whites. My own lil project pen...

Just a few pics from the baby pen this year to give an example of what they all turned out like.

@QueenMisha With his fiery color you could name him Luci or Adam hahaha.

I've got a Luci too! Adam is nice (lol) but I think I finally settled on Midwest... since that's where he was shipped from!

With our Partridge boy we wanted to be silly and give him a dog's name like "Spot" or "Rufus" or "Bullet" but he had a voice that sounded like a Trumpeter Swan so we named him "Trumpet."  Give your boy a chance to show his personality and a personality name will come to you!

That reminds me of this one too that came into work one day... his name was Elvis because he had the most amazing crow. He sounded like he was signing! He was gorgeous too. Shame he was mean... I ended up naming him Midwest. I'm thinking of adding a second name, so he has a fancy breeding name, like pedigree dogs and cats do. Has anybody ever pedigreed a chicken? Lol!

I think your big boy should be named "THOR". :)

We've already got a girl named Thor! Actually, come to think of it, she's a very pretty partridge so maybe they'll have some babies someone... she's about 1/2 the size of a normal Silkie hen, I wonder if the babies would grow to mom's size or dad's?

OMG the Halloween HAL and all the silks @Cynthia12
keeps hatching has been killing me to start on the breed again! I only had whites, blues and reds,  and SEEING THIS GUY OMG!!!   HE HAS TO BE THE MOST GORGEOUS Silkie I have ever seen in coloring!!! I love the mix of colors and add the barring! can I add that I cant wait to start dying my hair again! :lau

Seriously, I have a fox my dad trapped years ago, and the coloring is just as beautiful! I think he is surely Foxy! and the bunny tail to boot!   I would love to see him from behind...  I know I have been called sally silly sunshine many times, but we all have a thing for chicken butts dont we???

if you end up breeding him and sell eggs, I would LOVE to be on your list!   HarmonyAnn would be so surprised when they pop out of the shells!   OMG did I just say that, another breed!!! silkies again!!!  Reds are my love!!! this is your fault
@Fancychooklady

You're the second person to ask for eggs! I may have been a little exorbitant with this guy, given shipping costs, but it looks like it may have been a real great decision! I'll definitely have eggs next spring or summer - some will be him x Buff Silkie and some will be him x Cuckoo Silkie (sex linked babies!) but if I can find Red Partridges or even plain Reds I'll have some pure fire-colored babies too! He really is such a lovely color... and what a great personality too! Such a sweetheart.

This is one of my silkies with some chicks that she hatched for other hens. She's a great mum!

I realize that giving your silkie a regular haircut probably counts as sacrilege in these circles... but all our chickens free-range and therefore need to see where they're going. They always become much more agile after visiting the chicken barber /img/smilies/hide.gif

I have to give my babies haircuts too! They free range too, and if their poofs are too big all kinda of things get stuck to them. Also in the winter they get icicle poofs if I don't cut them back alittle! All grows back perfectly!

Just wanted to share this little lady, she's coming along nicely. Introducing Hattie, 7-8 week old blue partridge Frilkie (frizzled Silkie). Love her
