Silkie thread!

Streamers are generally referring to the tail .

What are the longer feathers called that come from the male crests? Our Partridge had similar longer feathers (streamers) in his tail too. The boys have spikier longer feathers protruding from their crest fluff way moreso than the girls. The girl crests seem evenly round while the boys have uneven crests with some spikes all around the crest fluff that stick out longer.

Thanks ravynfallen, silkiescuddles fancychooklady. I don't have any hens to trade eggs with each other, just one silkie girl :) But would love to try hatching eggs under her in the spring time. That is why I got her instead of an incubator :) good investment? I hope

My silkie is adorable. Why do I see a lot of large silkies? even at the poultry fair? I saw a fair amount of large looking silkie hens. I only saw very little amount of actually small bantam size silkie hens. Mine is the true bantam size. Of course I hope to add more like her. How would I figure out if someone breeds true bantam size? because even at the shows the larger ones did get ribbons.

Hi, I have a question for all you silkie owners. I bought some silkie eggs from a lady who I found locally. I had too many failed hatch from the mail. After 4 separate orders of eggs from eBay I said enough is enough!!
The silkies she had were supposed to be bearded, this was my one requirement that I never swayed on. They will be 3 weeks old this Wednesday. I am concerned about two things:

1. To my novice eye some look like they are not bearded
2. One of the white chicks looks like it is not a full silkie(I think one of the hens jumped into another pen) the fact that it has pink skin and if you look at its head you can see its comb.
* the lady also had a separate pen of brahmas and EE.

Could you look at the pics and give me your opinion.

This is the chick that I am concerned is not a full bred silkie

The chick in the last pic does look to have a vaulted skull. It's the only one that looks like a Silkie to me.
The yellow one is most definitely a cross and the dark one s beak is vey dark. Silkie should ideally have a 'leaden ' blue beak.
The yellow chick also looks to have a single comb.

x2 @Fancychooklady.

@Nksg75 you've got some mixes, but the last one is a Silkie, and I think it's got a beard.
Did you pay for eggs 4 different times from the lady off EBay?

No, I actually ordered from different people. Most of them started and quit later. So it is not a question of fertility. I do know it's a risk.
On another note, are you serious? Only 1 looks full silkie? (Lots of bad words!!!......) ahh,
So I finally had a successful hatch only to have mostly mix breeds!!
Ok, I am going to post more pics of the others and if you could tell me if these are also half breeds?
I will post in a second
