Silkie thread!

I have them in a real tree branch, occasionally one slept up there but tonight all of them did. I don't really like any of my birds sleeping in the nest box. Bc they poop and then that creates mites & your eggs will be dirty. (Unless you clean it everyday) that's just my preference

It's easy to clean the nest boxes every day since we check for eggs every day any way

. We haven't had trouble with poo on the eggs in the nest box. The chickens are pretty good about keeping the nest boxes clean. My problem is that they love to scratch the straw out of the boxes!

It should be really simple to fix that just make a board (or something else) about 1 inch off the bottom of the nest box. It should help it does with all of my bantams but all birds are different.

The box lips are about 3-inches and no help in keeping in the straw. Their old coop had round-hole nest box entrances and they still managed to kick out the straw. I think they find it fun or something!

So after much frustration and heart break i was gifted an actual incubator(yay!!) but i have no eggs

Yep, this is a rough time of year to get eggs. You'll have plenty of opportunities come Spring. I'm glad to see you are tenacious about chickeneering in spite of setbacks. I have one Silkie that's broody and one that can't stop laying right now! Go figure? Hardy little buggers - this breed!
