Silkie thread!

Darn dial-up! Wish I could watch it, but it would take over an hour to load a 3 minute clip!!

anyone have all the names and pics of the kinds of silkies? i figured just the basic, muffed and bearded, and showgirl, but not sure if everyone is just reffering to breeder names or color/patterns, or if im way outta da loop.

Do Silkies have trouble seeing? My chickens are not able to free range anymore because of hawks, so my new little chicks (once big enough) will be in a covered run. Do I need to trim the hair around their eyes so they can see? They will be in with Millie D'Uccles and Bantam EE's

Hold them up so that you are both at eye level with each other. If you can see their eyes, they can see, if not, use baby nail scissors and trim muff and/or crest feathers just enough so that you can see their eyes.

There are both bearded and non-bearded silkies, and there are showgirls in both bearded and non-bearded. There are many colour/pattern varieties, but the recognised varieties are white, black, blue, splash, buff, partridge, grey and self blue (lavender).

Breeder names are simply breeder names, although some lines tend to have slightly different characteristics (noted for things like denser feathering, longer feathers, larger crests (or more moderate ones), etc. Anso, most breeders limit themselves to a few varieties for which they are primarily noted.

ahhh, hehehe...

still waiting to see a naked silkie breed, even if only one from a double show girl or whatever would produce them on purpose or accident.. just would be funny to see. course theyd need little sweaters just like the bald abused parrots!
