Silkie thread!

Hi Everyone!! I Posted a thread to introduce myself and to see if anyone has any Silkie or Frizzle Chicks in Oregon (the west side of portand) and I think I should have posted it here in the Silkie thread.
I am looking for Silkie or frizzle chicks, like I mentioned, I have a Tiny bantam rooster, and 3 Silkie hens right now. They are all free range. They are all pets as well, But I do consume the eggs. I was told in the other thread that Silkies are not good for free range because they are sitting ducks due to their obvious obstructed view. It's been 4 years and they have done just fine being free range. I do not have any different breeds (besides the rooster not being a silkie) so they will not get picked on because they look different. (was told that as well) With all that being said, If anyone has any chicks in the washington County area of Oregon I would love to hear from you! Thanks! Have a beautiful day.

Hiya. :welcome
A good place to start your search is on your hometown thread. Here's the link to the Oregon thread. @Sustained might be able to help you. :)

Hi,

This is my gorgeous little silkie Prudence, she's about 8 weeks from laying but we keep her around because she's hilarious and very cute.

:welcome your prudence is lovely. :)

Fancychooklady your birds are so beautiful... wish you lived closer so I could buy some from you! The Red Partridges hardly seem to exist in the US... I'm tempted to get some Red Bantam Cochins and try making them from scratch!

The red partridge do exist here in the US.... However they don't fit the American ABA or APA book of standards for the partridge color though because they don't have the proper black breast. I know last year I sold a lot of $10 pet quality culls that looked like this..... They hatched with the chipmunk stripes and definitely are partridge, just way too red. I kept a couple of their darker brothers...

Kind of hoping this boy colors out a lil more. Very dark partridge and he has the proper black breast. He's only about 5 months old though and hasn't finished his juvenile molts.

Mine have started laying as early as 20 weeks, but the eggs are on the small side for a month or two. :)

I've seen her very reluctantly allow the roo to get on top a few times... So I thought maybe she is getting close but didn't think she would be already... I hatched some eggs and the babies are yellow. The only ones I know for sure are laying are the black and blue hens. So, if my paint isn't laying, is it possible for yellow babies to come out of black and blue?

If your black is actually a blue, then blue- blue could produce splash. But I've never has white chicks from my blues. Have you got any pics?
