Silkie thread!

oh lord silkie lovers, what have I got myself into? I rescued a few dozen birds five weeks ago, and gained myself two silkies. Brutus, a nuff single comb, was immediately my favorite. He died last week after a coon reaked havoc in my coop, and his buddy remains. Well now Silkie the silkie has stolen my heart. His two sebright cross hims betrayed him and went to stay with the cochin guy, so now I'm looking for a few good quality hens to start lines with. Personally, I think he's not far from standard. He's very fluffy and a huge sweetheart. His only problem is he thinks he's the big bad wolf and attacks the other roosters. I think he just needs a new girlfriend, or six. Anyone in the texas area willing to ship me some day olds? I'll get pictures of my boy up soon. I know I'll be fussed at for not having any in this post.

His big fluffy butt and funky crow are adorable. ehes my mothers favorite and won over a few friends. I bet a few more silkies would be reasonable, but how well do they lay? I know they brood often, which is awesome. I don't have an incubator and can only pray I have a broody game hen if I need to set eggs.

Very cute . They are so much fun . To those wanting color info -- I don't know if you know but there are 2 other threads --- 1 is Lavender silkies 2 is silkie color genetics -- Just trying to help . I would love to hear the answers to both questions .

Me too! I checked out the Lavender thread a while back, but theres no info regarding whites & lavs, so I'm still clueless at this point what to expect or how I should breed these guys. Would love more info from some of the genetic experts (HINT HINT) Ladies

I read the lavender thread from front to now and I'm pretty sure your gunna hear don't do it . I am no genetics guru , just a a new born in that area . But everything I've read says breed Lavender to Lavender or Lav. to black . I'm sure someone will come along and explain . Oh I love this subject

Thanks! I found a local breeder on Craigslist. I've had great luck with them so far! Keeping my fingers crossed that they stay healthy

Question: Isn't there a Grey Silkie? I would really like a Grey silkie hen and a Red silkie roo.
Anybody know where I can find some? My pet chicken has red silkies, but not grey silkies! Would splash silkies work?

The one sleeping in the picture is grey, but I don't know if the color will change.
