would my blue or black rooster make splash with her when she gets bigger?? she has very little black or grey would like one with more color she is my favorite! also is there a good book to read on what to do? this is my first time having chickens!!! the lady I got them from said silkies live to be mommys!! I want to let them do it their self I know the porcelain is rare because the lady sells the babies for allot but I know I wont be able to get rid of them so I don't wont to be a hoarder! So my next question is one baby each enough to make them happy?? what if you never let them hatch and have babys???

What color goes with splash to get splash??

Hi BYCers! I have a question, what colour would you call these 3? #1 - She is mostly black but her underfeathers are grey. She's my favourite, she is so evenly tempered and loves to snuggle B] (a shot of her underfeathers) #2 - She is mostly grey with a red tinge, also underfeathers are grey (a shot of her underfeathers) #3 - She has yellow stripes throughout (she is the one in front) (when she was a chick she was spotted - she is the one to the right and the grey chick to the left is now #2!)
All lovely birds. The first is blue, the second blue with red leakage and the third partridge. I'm guessing the middle one is a mix of blue and partridge, hence the leakage.

I've had two Silkie hens for almost 6 yrs and never had a roo for them but they still go broody every time they lay a few eggs. I make sure to collect all eggs daily, sometimes twice daily, so the broody Silkies don't sit on unfertilized eggs. When the Silkies go broody I let them set an empty nest for as many days/weeks as they want to give their bodies a rest from their laying cycle. We make sure to take the broody hen out of the nest a couple times daily to eat/drink/exercise/dust-bathe before they go running back to their "empty" nest. Silkies can't help it -- they brood 2 to 3x a year whether they have eggs to sit on or not. I don't try to break broodies. I let them nest it out naturally until they decide when to rejoin the flock. If you want to give your broodies some eggs to hatch then a couple would be good in case one of the eggs doesn't reach hatch but it is not necessary to give Silkies eggs to hatch. They will brood naturally with or without eggs in the nest. Silkies, especially young ones, can lay 4 to 6 eggs weekly. When they go broody I'm glad because it gives their body a rest to replenish the body nutrients from laying so many eggs. The broody rest is good for them IMO as long as you see that they eat/drink at least a couple times daily.

Whenever hens are molting or brooding I increase vitamins for them by giving them one drop of children's no-iron Poly-Vi-Sol liquid vitamin on the side of their beak to lick up. My Silkies like the taste so much they drink the drop right out of the palm of my hand. They like it so much I have to make sure they don't lick up more than a drop and only 2 or 3x a week. Human baby vitamins are potent so just a drop each time for 2-lb Silkies is safe. I also supplement their feed with Rooster Booster chicken vitamins -- Rooster Booster also has a Multi-Worming vitamin formula to add to feed.

As for your color breeding questions I don't know about genetics and leave that expertise to others.

Thank you!!! you are so helpful!! I know I may want a few babies because my friend that breeds them is going more the sizzle and frizzle way like my porcelain and blueish silver one and getting rid of all her smooth silkie feather ones!!! I have enough nesting boxes they can live in them!!! I have 3 stacks of 3 in the coop and 4 in another shed I couldn't keep them out of and two in my covered run!! But you know what I could have one because I go out everyday and there is 10 eggs in one of the top nesting boxes!! I had my husband build a door to put over one of the doors someone said regular chickens would bully my silkies out of the box!!! my regular chickens don't care about the silkies!! they rather have the higher boxes my friend says its because I have always had them all together from babies!!!

Looks like a sizzle with that crest popping up. Frizzles will never have a crest like that :p
