Silkie thread!

I got 6 silkies from an auction last spring... only one left. They don't seem to be too smart and i have had a lot of trouble getting them to perch. Now that my one hen is alone she has started perching.

Anyone else have a problem like this?
This is my last silkie named Daisy.
I only had to show mine how to perch two nights!! The only time they don't is when it really cold and the cuddle to keep warm!

Chickens love to feel a breeze through their feathers -- especially after a warm bath. My Silkie would tap on the fan when she wanted me to turn it on and then she would stand in front of it to feel it ruffle her "fur."

Good to keep the Silkies safe! Cover the shower drain or else the chicken feed will clog the drain or worse like happened to us, the seeds sprouted under the drain pipe and clogged it up where we never saw it until the water wouldn't drain any more. Gross to clean it up.

I ended up putting new paper done because I was scare a foot would go in the drain!!

I am obviously still learning!! I thought it was so cold yesterday night when I opened the coop do last night I didn't want my silkies to be to cold!! I made a hole in a rubber container well now 7 of my silkie hens are wet because they where all in there !! Now I am letting the dry and hopeing they don't get sick from coming in and out of the house! figured I would post my fail so other new chickens owners don't make my mistake!

what do you guys/gals do for your runs?

We currently have a 20x20ish non-roofed run. So rain/snow etc covers our silkies run.

I'm considering covering 1/3 of it so they have a 8x12 area of so next to the coop that is covered and the rest uncovered.

Just not loving the gunk that is sticking to my kiddo's feet.

He is 2.5 years old. He's a rescue, and has always looked a little scraggly. Is there something I can give him to improve his plumage? Should I be giving him baths. He's an indoor pet, with his own "apartment" in the house.
How old of a hen should I get, if I want fresh eggs for cooking?

This is my last silkie named Daisy. It has been known....that Silkies usually do NOT
perch. They usually just cuddle together on the floor of
the coop. I have 8 Silkies and that is what they do. Regards, Aria

It is best to have a top cover on the run. We have Hawks in our area.
We have a piece of plywood and then a gray tarp over the run. SAFE.

And we have small pea stones in the runs. It seems to stay clean.
We have 8 Silkies. Regards, Aria
