Silkie thread!

I have a new room mate LOL. My favourite silkie rooster Owl is currently living in a dog crate in my room, where I can keep him warm and keep and eye on him. He has a bad ear infection right now. I was away for a couple days and when I left he was fine. I came back home and he still looked good. Today though he was lethargic, stood away from the others and made no noise or attempt to move when I picked him up. So I brought him inside and cleaned his ears, pulling as much of the infection out as I could. Since then he seems to be doing better. Still he will stay inside with me until he is all better to ensure the rest of the flock doesn't get it. So far he has no issues being inside and loves to listen to my country music. Now I only need to tell my hubby on Friday when he gets home that there is a rooster living in our bed room lol

I have a Sikie with CRD issues and have to monitor her during colder or inclement weather. Some Silkies are hardier than others and she happens to be my littlest Silkie and without the brains to keep sheltered on wet or windy days! Once a house chicken is ready to be put outdoors I'll do a gradual introduction into the outdoor temps. I'll let a temporary house chicken toodle around outdoors during the day and bring them into a similar cool room indoors for the night for a couple days before rejoining the flock permanently for all-night roosting.

OH MY GOSH!!! LOOK AT THE CUTE FLUFFY BUTTS!

This is how I have made mine they are adjustable around the waist & tail (my chickens didn't like the straps over their wings) these fit like panties. I use nursing pads on the inside.

Is this your own design? How do the panty diapers stay on without going over the shoulder? My Silkie finds creative ways to get out of her diapers until she got used to the custom-made ones I made for her.

Find whatever style works for you -- whether you custom-make or buy ready-made. Go to youtube.com and type "chicken diaper" in the Search bar and a bunch of people with chicken diapers comes up. I made mine using chickenmom (youtube)
chicken diaper pattern because I needed more than one for change-outs during the day. At expensive $15 to $25 each ready-made diapers online I decided to make my own out of scraps of fabric I had on hand. For fluffy Silkies the velcro fasteners catch and pull on the soft Silkie "fur" so I don't use velcro but use large safety pins to hold straps together. Chickens will bicycle in the air with their feet while you put on diapers so it will take a few times to get used to putting them on. You'll eventually find a pattern that will suit your breed of chicken. I happen to like chickenmom's pattern for my Silkies. Chickenmom pattern didn't work for my larger breed chickens.

SILKIE DIAPER -- (I had a long strip of white elastic I never trimmed off)

SILKIE ESCAPING THE HOUSE WEARING HER DIAPER - she once layed an egg in her diaper

SILKIE DIAPER

AMERAUCANA DIAPER -- used chickenmom pattern and this Ameraucana would sulk and pout and refused to walk in her diaper.

Just to make sure i'm sexing my silkies correctly - this is a boy, right? None of my other silkies, have the red waddles growing, like him and 2-3 are older, and the rest are his hatch-mates. he's the ONLY one with the red stuff growing on his chin.

He's also the most bold, aggressive, and pushy of them.

I've been calling him a He. LOL
