Silkie thread!

I keep OEGBs, a few SS hens so that I get a doz full sized eggs a week, and silkies all together.
The OEGBs run the coop, but aren't 'rough'. The SS hens never bother anyone.
If you are going to keep silkies with a mixed flock, especially with bigger birds, I highly suggest making sure that your large fowls are of the gentler breeds, and watching closely for conflict.

We are currently gathering materials for a bigger run and house. Still doing repairs from that ladt hurricane so they are stuck in the "evac" for now.

Can anybody tell me what color this cockerel is? I thought he was black with silver leakage, but as he's matured his saddle feathers have grown in silver also. Could he be birchen? Or is he just a crappy black? Thanks for you opinions.

So I started incubating 30 eggs last weekend. I candled them tonight and 19 have embryos and 11 were unfertile or had a blood ring. Will candle again next weekend to see who's still alive and who has to be plucked out. Hoping for 12 to 15 to hatch.

Cute babies - Silkies are such sweeties!

Sorry to hear about your hurricane weather! We are the opposite usually having humid summers and no freezing temps. But this past week we've been experiencing a deluge of heavy rain storms flooding our back yard and garden beds:

He looks Silver partridge... with better black that you see on many partridges, especially silvers.
However, is there mahogany red showing in the tips of his neck hackles?

Anyway, You could just send him to my house... I have two lovely hens that might like to meet him. I know I would sure like them to! LOL
I'm ever on the search for lovely moorheads. I got two silver partridge hens sort of by accident when getting some standard red partridges, and I just love them!
