Silkie thread!

My silkie boys have been having good luck with the new hampshire girls. I've had fertile brown eggs the last few days. The brahma hens ignore them and won't squat yet

Snotty Black Silkie -- only when she is broody or molting and then she secludes herself in the nestbox and usually doesn't come out unless we take her out for food and exercise. DH puts her out by herself so she doesn't bother the other birds w/ her snotty behavior. After she quits brooding or molting and is back to normal everything is fine again. She just finished her broody time and has been out all day long w/ the other chickens and she hasn't challenged anyone but they remember how snotty she was before and are avoiding her. In a couple days when they learn she's not being snotty any more they'll all be back to foraging w/ each other again. Our other Partridge Silkie has never been a snotty broody but she complains if someone gets too near her and that warning is enough to keep out of her way -- but she doesn't go out of her way to attack anyone like the Black Silkie does. Two different Silkie personalities.

I have some silkie hens you need to meet (or meat in their case). I made the mistake of wearing sandals in the run with them. My feet still bare scars. These four evil things are usually nice and sweet, until eggs and chicks are involved. They brood in groups, too. One will hide the chicks and the others attack. A pullet has joined their evil group this year. She tried to skin my hand a couple weeks ago when I was collecting eggs.

TeeHee! W/ your collection of Silkies I think i would be careful too! I only have 3 chickens total at the moment w/ a 4th one coming late Spring so a little less lethal attacks in MY case!

How does a 2-lb Silkie boy mount a 9-lb Brahma hen?  Or are the Brahmas bantams?

Large fowl hatchery light brahmas. Ones 8 pounds 13 ounces and one is 9 pounds 2 ounces.

I had a silkie rooster in there before that they respected and he got the job done. He was smart enough to grab feathers at the shoulders and not the hen's head.

The new hampshire girls are all around 7 pounds

I wondered if it's a Partridge thing too! In fact, if we ever get another Silkie it will most likely be a Partridge again. We absolutely love the color patterns too.

Does Anyone Know What Color This Is???? Some People On My Facebook Page Said She Might Be Black Split To Paint???? Will She Keep The White??? I Breed And Hatched Her Father And Mother Are Both Paint Silkies!!
