Silkie thread!

Hi! I have added some silkies this year for the first time. This is one of the 2.

Ours brood empty nests all the time. Currently, have a Breda hen gone broody over an empty nest. It's good to give their bodies a rest after laying so many eggs in a row! During molt a chicken might get reclusive and be mistaken as a broody but is only hiding. If a broody is in hiding after 3 weeks I consider they are being reclusive during molt. Keep them fed, watered, and out of the box for exercise and they'll eventually snap out of it. I supplement my broody, molting, or ill chickens ONE drop of liquid no-iron children's Poly-Vi-Sol vitamin 2 or 3x a week because they don't eat so well during those times.

Yes, I think this is what's going on! At least one chicken, Disco, is molting (she lost her WHOLE TAIL!!!!). I'm not too sure about the other, but they haven't laid for a month now, they are probably molting as well. And your silkies are so cute!

These photos are all of the same Partridge Silkie. The bottom picture shows how much tail she lost during one of her molts. The white/gray underdown starts to show when the outer brown/gold feathers come out and I'll find loose pretty Partridge wing feathers here and there around the yard too.

I just love the molts where it looks like a chicken or 4 exploded. It always makes me do head counts. Then you have pre-plucked birds for a week.
