Silkie thread!

I just had my very first silkie babies hatch! I'm so very excited!

There are 2 whose color is indeterminate. I'm referring to it as 'grizzly' and 'grey grizzly' due to it being a very variegated color--each 'hair' is a different color than the one next to it, and the base of each 'hair' is darker than the tip.

I don't know what the parents looked like, as the guy I got the eggs from described his flock as "I got all the colors, I got white, black, gray, mahogany, silver, brown, all 'o 'em."
So I'm assuming he has no idea of proper color names...

Could someone please tell me the proper names of these colors? I suppose they could be partridge, but my other partridge chicks have very clear chipmunk strips and dark spots on the face.

So here is 'grizzly'

I was kind of confused at your post. But the one with the head turned up , probably wry neck. Poly visol without iron. It's sold in the infant vitamin section most places. I found it at CVS and made by enfamil. I add it to moist feed for all chicks the first few days. But she needs it. I also give Nutradrench, a drop on the beak to chicks as I pull them out of the bator and add them to the brooder (since they probably won't eat the first day anyway).

She was stuck in the egg and I helped her out the insides of the egg was dry and the inner part of the egg had to be washed off! I don't know if she got stepped on or she was to big for the shell!! she has fight tho because she was buried in the stray and I thought for sure I was going to find a dead chick but know she was fighting!! how can you give up on a baby with so much fight!

Congratulations! I've noticed partridge hatching in some different shades. For example, here are some of mine that hatched, the lighter color grew to be blue partridge. By the way, these look so much like my Bantam Mille Fleur Cochin that hatched this week. I can't see these pics well. I'm assuming they have the black skin and 5 toes?

I just got 4 silkies, they are adolescents. I don't know if they are male or female. I am pretty sure one is male, the others... not a clue.
They were not really handled at their old home, but we hand feed them 2-3 times daily. We hope to make them super friendly.

Hello All,
This may seem like a different sort of question, but here goes...I've owned 6 standard size chickens, and one silkie for one year. Shortly after my standards arrived, my daughter showed up with "her" chicken (white silkie). Long story short I've fed, watered, cared for all of these chickens this past year, but now one of the Rhode Island's has started to pick on Peep Peep. I'm afraid the time has come for me to get a better, more suited home for her. My question is, what is a good asking price for a one year old laying silkie? She is a good layer, and for a while was trying to hatch the other chickens eggs...silly girl. Thanks for any help for Peep Peep...Denise

I'm still getting used to this new format, and not doing very well. Lol. Wanted to post some pics of my newly hatched silkie peeps! No idea what colors they'll turn out to be, but I like the surprise! I'm just praying some of them are HENS!:fl
Silkiecuddles I'm hoping you see this!

I hatched these a few weeks ago. Try to ignore the fermented food that is sometimes on the face.

The first chick pic is a new hatch pic. I'm thinking that the white spots on toes may tell me this is a paint.
