Silkie thread!

This is our first video, we are just here to share our experience with raising our silkie chicks at the fuzzy animal farm.

The coop we have in this video was ordered from here

We got our (14) chicks the first week of May 2017 from a woman in berkley MA, and currently outfitting the coop for our chicks to move in with in the next week.

My next step is to put the floor down. I used a water based latex high gloss paint on the walls, the brand is EZPOXY. This paint is normally used for marine situations but worked well for this coop, low voc and it had low oder when applying. When I am washing out the coop it will protect the wood and keep things simple. I am going to apply blackjack #57 on the coop floor, to be continued!

Any suggestions or comments welcomed! Cheers!

We used linoleum on poop boards and the floor for easy clean up :)

Any Idea on these, Roo or Hen?

Two 9 week old pullets deciding to try and intimidate my female cat. It wasn't working. Leia has ignored large fowl hens bigger than her. No peeping silkies are making her even care.

I realize the cat makes the silkies look huge. In reality she's just a little cat at 6.5 pounds. Her brother is normal and twice her size.

These are our silkies! The one to the right and in front is Sunflower, the one to the left and behind is Lucky. I'm guessing Lucky is a cockeral, the comb keeps getting bigger and bigger, and he's got a funny kind of voice. He's also not as friendly, he's curious, but he's always on guard and doesn't enjoy being picked up. Sunflower is much more relaxed and tolerates being held quite well and also seems to enjoy a nice little scratch between the wings.

Lucky got his name after we set up our chicken yard and our German shepherd pulled up the fencing and chased out the silkies. Lucky had a minor wound but I cleaned it up and it was healed over the next day thankfully. Sunflower managed to find a great hiding spot and was unscathed. We all learned some lessons that day lol.

CONGRATS :woot
they're so cute :love

Thank you for the congrats! I had a scare tonight, and it's not over! Went to lock up the flock and heard one of the chicks peeping like she was stuck. When I turned the light on I saw my little grey peep sitting next to mom with her head hanging down! I immed thought of wry neck and got on here asking for help. Luckily I had vit E and got some in her! Then i made her a warm mash mixed with alittle applesauce. I'm really hoping she comes around! The thing that gives me hope is she has alot of spunk and peeps loud! I was able to get her to eat the mash on her own, some water and the Vit E. I had her under a heat lamp, but I didn't trust it. So I got my other broody hen and put her in a carrier with the baby. Will see what the morning brings. Saying prayers
