I feed 22% protein. They feather a lot nicer and I get more eggs from them. They also get pasture during the summer.

My silkie roo is extremely aggressive. He’ll attack cats, dogs, birds, humans, etc. Overall a very unlikable rooster. But that is uncommon in the breed most don’t act like him.

ok, I was wondering because mine are on 20% I think?

Where do you get your feed from? I get mine from tractor supply and half the time they are out. So they get switched feeds often.

usually Rural king since prices are cheaper.

I don’t think I have one of those nearby. I think it’s about a city or two away from me so with gas tractor supply is still probably cheaper. Thank you though

I had a very clannish silkie rooster. He would go out of his way to attack chicken that wasn't a silkie. His name was Pumpkin but I called him Genghis Pumpkin for a reason. He'd lead his silkie horde in a takeover march of the yard beating the crap out of the large fowl ameraucana roosters and hens they came across. He was top rooster. His sons learned from watching him. I didn't get rid of the breed aggression until I raised the cockerels away from him.

He wasn't normal silkie behavior and I have a ton of stories about him sneaking around to attack a rooster he saw in the distance. He was people friendly.

Silkie roosters can't really see well enough to guard well. I do have one as the flock rooster for my large fowl hens now. The hens have groomed his crest off mostly so he can actually see and do a decent job. The brahma is his favorite hen.
