Silkie thread!

Had to share this little cutie I hatched. Have to grow it out and decide if it's a keeper. Super friendly and adorable as heck!

lol I hear ya there. Feeding fresh orageno is good for them, especially during the winter. I like to feed romane lettuce during the winter and warmed frozen peas.

I give mine a mix of chopped greens every day. I save the scraps from chopping my stirfry the night before and they go into the mix the next day. They get everything from romaine to bok choy greens, carrot, spinach, celery, broccoli etc. I mix in a bit of calcium/d3 powder and trace mineral powder. I sprinkle dried mealworms or scratch on the top. They see the dishes coming, my fatty fat bantam cochin hen tries to fly up to meet the dish! Then they all do funny high pitched clucks as they're eating, like kids with cake at a birthday party.

My Roos are about 7 months when they figure out how and I have never had to trim butt feathers to make babies happen, thankfully!

Thanks! I once bred some fancy pigeons that needed their butts trimmed to fertilize eggs. I thought maybe Silkies with their fluffy butts might need a trim too. I guess my little guy is too young yet, he's only 5 months. I suppose that explains why I've never seen him mate with the hen. Oh well, I just found out that local hydro is shutting off the power to my building all day tomorrow. There goes the incubator. :he

Oh well, if the eggs aren't fertile anyway I guess it doesn't matter. I'll try wrapping the incubator in a blanket tomorrow anyway. If nothing else I can hatch some quail eggs until my Showgirl roo is old enough.

You never know, there are exceptions so I wouldn't assume he is too young. Wrap the incubator and hope for the best!

Hey guys, I have a question. Today is day 22 (Well, will be at 8PM) and silkies have not pipped, wiggled (that I know of), or chirped. I tried playing chirping music next to them and it did not work. I candled them on day 16 and the egg was 3/4 full, with a surprisingly large air bubble. I started their lockdown a little late- on the 18th day. The humidity was way too high, 90% but is now down to 65%. Any ideas? I know it may just be a late hatch but this is my first time hatching chickens at all.
Another thing, most of the eggs have dark spots around them. What does that mean?

If you already have some female chickens you could let them sit on the eggs for that period.?
Just a suggestion!
