Silkie thread!

Well, BOO. I just had an egg in there! I haven't seen one in months! and it was smashed :( the shell wasn't very hard. I just put some oyster shells out there. I hope it just got stepped on and smashed and it isn't someone trying to eat the eggs. It really did look like it was just stepped on though. It was in the nest box... but, it could have easily been stepped on or squashed while she laid on it! :(

How do you know if the roos are mating with the hens? I haven't seen any mount anyone yet.

If you crack open an egg or a few, you can see the germinal disc. It is a little white circle. You may have to flip the yolk over if it's underneath, but you can definitely tell if it's fertile this way.

that is amazing!!!!! I am definitely curious about this. And you say it saves $ too right?

The FF raises protein content by up to 20%. So they get full faster, and stay full longer. It also gives you a better feed to egg/meat conversion ratio. That equals less feed to consume which means you save $$ over time.
What Trav said, but it's just utilizes more protein, doesn't actually raise the protein level of the food itself. I thought the same thing until I was corrected.

Quote: I have seen so much less waste, which is really awesome to see.

They eat 50 pounds less a week on average.
