Silkie thread!

how big is a nesting box for a silkie? I know, dumb question. lol. Is a 5 gal ice cream bucket big enough size wise? Or should it be larger?

I would think that would be plenty big enough. I use 5 gallon lowes buckets for my large chickens.
A 5 gallon bucket of any kind would be plenty big for a silkie. I caught 3 silkies in their little nest box tonight. They were all pullets and the box is 10"X10". I guess they thought it looked like a cozy place to snuggle.

Poulettes, when you say your silkie is "swallowing air," do you mean she opens her mouth and seems to gasp. Is there any chance she may have gapeworms? That would make her shake her head also as they move around.

I got a bit scared yesterday as I was introducing her to my flock, but I think it was stress because today she did not do it. What a relieve! I already have enough silkie drama to add another one. Thank you for your concern :)

Last night my grandfather gave me a carton of fresh duck eggs he had just bought but didn't like, and when I was cooking them this morning I noticed they were fertile. SO.... Me loving experiments I took one out that was being stored pointy end down and gave it to Ice to see if she would go broody and see if it might hatch

I've been wondering if duck eggs would hatch under a silkie as the incubator requires that you mist them.
