Silkie thread!

Here are my Wife's Silkies at around 9 weeks(+/- a week). Please excuse the messy faces, they love their fermented feed. Buff(Teriyaki) Porcelain(Marsala) White(Parmesano) Black(Kung Pow) Blue(General Tso) A couple of weeks ago I thought the Black one was a cockerel, now I am questioning it. Only the Blue is getting much bigger and has a large comb, the other four have very small combs. If Blue ends up being the only cockerel, that means I only need to acquire one more cockerel, a Buff or Partridge to go with the Buff and Porcelain girls.
They are so cute at this stage! I really like Teriaki. Kung Pow looks blue to me, not black though.

Kung pow looks blue to me. It is a little to young to tell the sex, wait a few more weeks then post more pictures.

Pretty positive it is black, I changed the settings after taking the first 3 turning out so dark. His feathers are black all way down the shaft. The Blue has nearly black around head and following down his feathers, they shift to blue.

Oh ya, that's black

I knew different lighting would show it properly(photographer). Outside, natural lighting is best for people, but can be difficult to bring out true colors in animals. And like I said, settings weren't set as I should have had them set. I had the ISO set too low for outside lighting. The pics of the light girls was on a pre programmed setting I was on from Hawaii trip and forgot to change it back to manual.

It might be the photo, but this one looks blue also.

hey yall what watt bulb do yall use for yalls brooder
I use either a 75 watt purple reptile bulb or a red heat bulb. They get their nights and days mixed up and never seem to go to bed with a regular light bulb. At first I have the bulb about 10-12 inches above them and then raise it higher each week (so the temperature reduces by 5 degree increments). My silkies like a nice, toasty 90-95 degrees the first week after hatch.

Day 10 candling went well. All ten eggs are developing right on schedule, and boy, are they active! I don't think they liked being taken out of the nice warm incubator too much, they were basically bouncing all around the shell. Sweet babies

I'm so happy (and surprised) with the 100% fertility! Little Macho (or "The Other Guy") have apparently been quite active! Now I just am hoping for a 100% hatch as well
