Silkie thread!

I gave a bath to my sick silkie, the one who has skin problem, mites or whatever it is and realized she doesn't have any turquoise ear. How come? All the others have it, why doesn't she has it? h She comes from a reputable breeder, so I know she is not a hatchery or a poor quality chick.
The oatmeal bath treatment, tick shampoo, ivermectin seem to help a little bit, but she still look awful. I don't know what else I can do for her.
That is a defect. They are supposed to have blue ear lobes, so she can't be shown, though I don't know about breeding her.

I think Macho wants to come live with her. :)

Here's a pic of my peeps. One of the unhatched eggs pip, zipped and then died in the shell. Not real sure what was up with that. I opened it and it looked healthy. The other egg has pipped, so I'm gonna keep an eye on it just in case it needs help.

just checked and actually breeding black to partridge would give you all black offspring. Here look at this website and play around: http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html

unless you want a whole seperate pen for another color I would stick to B/B/S
Breeding partridge to black may give you black with gold leakage in the hackles. Not desirable...

Such cuties! Hope the other one pops out soon!

The skull is not soft. If the bird has a vaulted skull, it will have a large hole or holes when the bird is young. As the bird ages, bone will grow to cover all or most of the hole. If the skull is not vaulted, there is unlikely to be any hole.

I can't believe that I didn't know the skull continued to grow and cover. That is really encouraging. I could tell it felt tougher and wondered why.
