Silkie thread!

how fast do silkies tend to grow? I have 2 blue silkies and they should both be about the same age....i think 1 might be 3 days older then the other but thats not a very big gap. The one that appears older (more wing feathering) is nearly twice the size of the other! Is that a normal thing? Sign of a roo?

How old? Of our 5, our Blue(General Tso) is growing leaps and bounds over the rest. He is a boy.

one is maybe 5 days and the other is 8 or so i think. I knew that one was a little older but they came in the same delivery to the feed store, so they can't be that far apart.
I'll try and get a pic of them together posted tomorrow if that will help.

If i have a possible roo i need to trade him out and my feed store is willing to do that free. I just don't want too much of an age gap and i don't want them to run out of silkies!!

Oh, at that young then yes they could be different sizes. Mine evened out after about 2 weeks, then General Tso started shooting up in the last 2 weeks(around 10 weeks old now). I would hold off for another week maybe to see if they even up. Maybe someone with more experience will chime in too. This is our first group of Silkies

When mine we young- I had some like that. They turned out to be the females of the group! My males outgrew them later. Seems like months later. I don't know if that's how most go- this was my first group. The are now 8 months- and the cockerel is twice the size of the pullets now.

love mulberries...yum...that's what silk worms eat...
I have 11 in the brooder and they fling themselves around when ever I put my hand in there like i am about to lite them on fire...silly chicks...they do calm down and learn the hand means food soon....keep trying
I would not think the chicks would have fleas? I have not heard of that...I would think it would be easy to see any lice ect on a chick if they had them...

Yeah I thought so I just got paranoid cos I have been a bit itchy after holding them

wow such a precious little thing...so lucky you found her...hope she is doing fine...fingers crossed for you and her...

I'm looking for sq hens and rooster. I will even consider excellent quality silkies. I want black roo, blue & splash hens. I would love to get ones that are pullets or almost pullets, juvies. I am in Arkansas, plz let me know if you can point me in the right direction.thanks!
Try craigslist, that is where I go to and you can usually find some excellent silkies there. But also, I would maybe go with a blue roo and black and splash hens. You should get more of a variety that way.

I did my first candling ever! For sure, I have 3 Lavenders, 2 Porcelain, and 2 buffs. I hope, hope, hope they hatch! All died my first attempt. Hope I didn't jinx it announcing it! I won't even let myself LOOK at pics that color.. last time, I had chick pics printed out, names..etc. :)

I'm in love...
I am a new chicken owner and have built up a 7-bird mixed flock, including two Silkies that I picked up yesterday!!!! OH MY GOD I love them. See attached pics!
The Partridge Silkie (her name is "Meatball") sticks her whole crest in the water when she drinks... I think I'll be switching to Chicken Nipple Waterers soon...
The Buff Silkie, "Lily", is a little sweetheart... she's always happy and looking for food!
They get along so well with everyone in the coop... especially the poor Black Copper Marans Pullet (second pic), who seems to be the pee-on in the pecking order.
I love my Silkie Pair!

Congrats!
