Silkie thread!

River sand is what I use as we have a dry creek bed on our property. It is really awesome stuff!
Yes, feet stay clean and easy on the feathering.
Great, you convince me! I will try to get the coarse then

Yeah, I post pics on FB, and my friends, most Mafia). are not amused. Luckily, I found some chicken friends on there! . My Catdance eggs go into lockdown tomorrow. Fingers crossed- I lost my last batch. It was my first time incubating, in a home made cooler/incubator- it was a disaster!! Good luck on yours!!

I aready pulled it out of the box and plugged it in.. Doing a test run today/night. Should be a go for eggs next week! So fun!
I have the 1588 and I just wanted to let you know that you should not trust the build in thermometer/ hygrometer. I have two 1588 and both are off. I always stick one or two thermometer/hygrometer in there.

Check out these fluffy little feet! Not bad for a 2 day old

Beautiful!
Your Silkies are just beautiful! I just received my first Silkie chicks a couple of weeks ago. Three of them are 8 weeks old and 2 are 6 weeks old. Hope they grow up to be as gorgeous. :)
Congratulation on your new chicks. Pics please?

Mine just arrived too! Hah! It's plugged in and I'm testing it now. Going to put test eggs in it tomorrow.
Yeah more chicks coming along. Good luck!

Hey! I posted this in the appropriate thread- hatching, etc, but I'm anxious for an answer - I'm on pins and needles for what might be my first hatch :) Here's the question: Hi- Forgive me if this has been answered a million times, or is on an egg chart that I haven't seen- I've been looking before I put the question on here :). This is my second time trying to incubate eggs. First time was a disaster, no eggs hatched. This time,I'm candling. I have 10 viable eggs (shipped eggs). 2, I have questions about. They are on day 17. I looked at them today, before I put them on lock down tomorrow. 1 has air cells on both ends of the egg. I can still see veins, but only the middle of the egg has mass. Another eggs is full of chick, but the air cell is at the wrong end (the narrow part of the egg). Are those eggs ok? The will be laid sideways during lockdown (Hovabator LG)
You might want to try to put them in egg cartons (lockdown). Peep does it that way and she gets very good hatch rate. I am definitely going to try next time. Good luck

I know this may be a shot ini the dark, but maybe your chick has an allergy. I had a black lab with zero issues. One day he started breaking out all over, as soon as I got rid of every bit of the hay (as advised by a friend) he got better an all of the reaction went away. I never used hay again.
I don't know if your message was intended for me but if it was, yes I thought about a possible hay allergy, that is why I remove it and added some pine shavings until I get sand. I looked at her today and I don't know what to think. Her skin is still in really bad condition (dead skin, peeling, scabbing, missing feathers...) but now I gave her some frontline I cannot do anything else. I need to wait a few days in order to give her a bath and get rid of all of this dead skin. I am really hoping all my hard work will pay off. She used to be gorgeous and now there is no words to describe her.
I got my first Silkies today. I believe: 2 gray/blue, 2 Partridge, 1 red. There is also a Polish in with them.

Too cute!
Immunized the chicks today for Maereks and lost one dang it:( it's one I had planned on keeping but can't take a chance of loosing the whole lot of them.
I am sorry about your loss

Doesn't she look cozy in her bed? So adorable

I'm wondering what dog she chased out of the bed. My friend Arline's serama takes over the dog's bed when she is broody and nobody comes near her.

What type of incubator did u get? I got the brinsea 20 advance and love it. I ended up with 9 lav and porcelian babies. I'll post more pics later, theyre amazing good luck with your next bator!

Oh darn! I was hoping this was going to be fool proof..

I have 2 other hydrometers that read about 15% off of eachother. One is 10% less than it's suppose to be according to my test and the other 5% higher. gah. I was like oh good no more fooling around. Well Thanks for the info.. Time to do some testing.

Actually it's her bed

It was for my cats but they don't like it. She loves it and if I let her out of her crate at night she goes right to it and falls asleep.
