Silkie thread!

I have an 8 week old white silkie that's chest is very large and squishy like , bigger than the others is this natural

I'm no expert, but I freaked out when I discovered one of my chicks had the same thing going on and it was its crop. (or what ever you call it). I don't know what age you should start giving them grit, but I'm sure some one can tell you. My SL Wyandotte comes in from free ranging looking like she has a giant growth and yes I have caught her to examine to make sure that it was the same thing.

Sounds like sour crop...sorry to hear that

anyone have high quality silkie eggs for sale that can be set in time for the "easter hatch a long"?  blue, black, splash, and paint are my favorite colors but will consider other colors as well. I thought I was content with pet quality but after seeing all these beautiful photos I am jealous and want some that I can show off as well.  thanks :)

Don't disregard your beautiful babies yet...they still may grow to be spectacular...they have some nice markings

Does he crow at night?
My rooster is locked in the coop and will start crowing at 630 / 7am. When I close the door it is pretty dark inside. Maybe you could add some "french doors" to keep the coop darker.

My **** Roos crow at all hours through the night...I think as I have o e in the garage with my brooder and the heat lamp light makes him crow then stets off the other two out in the coops...drives me nuts!

here are a few pics of my chicks from yesterday. Not very good ones as they move so fast They are Catdance silkies
This is Prim I think she is porcelain but Im not positive

and this is Bobo I think she is splash

THE END

Ha! The end! Atleast no sign of pastys! Thats always a good thing...i think mine finally out grew that! Had 2 silkies one died on its week bday but the other is still going strong!

He is the only banty in my brooder so he/she will be one tough chckie after dealing with all of its bigger brothers and sisters...my ee,s just kinda hop over him to get where they are going, game of leap chicken anyone? Lol!

That's funny, I have 2 silkies in my brooder with some buff orpingtons, columbian Wyandottes and barred rocks... They are much smaller, but their attitudes don't seem to show it... They are quite feisty! Maybe roos, not quite sure yet :),

My friend's baby (who is recovered from wry neck, but has a permanent head tilt now

). Is it looking like a boy to anyone else? I hope it just has a large comb for a girl

she lives in an apartment and is going to be devastated if it turns out to be a boy, she will have to rehome it. I'm hoping the comb just looks larger because the crest feathers haven't grown in yet.

I've had these babies for a week.

I guess these are blues. The chick on the right has a really puffy face and head.
Their feet feathers are stuck together from standing in their damp food.

Same two from pic 1.

This one has a lot of red on its head and back. Again please over look the feet. They do have feathers. Can any one give me a hint as to what it will look like as a adult. I would love a Calico.

Same chick in pic3.

These 3 are colored about the same. Are they Partridge?

Looks like this one will have a big crest.

These are my first Silkies. I went back to the store, but their Silkies had gotten lost in the mail and only 10 out of 200 had made it. I was afraid to get any of those. I want to get the different colors and I believe I should be looking for the puffy faces and heads like the blue on the left in 1st and 2nd picture right? Sorry for so many pics. but I figure someone can tell me about these guys.
You have two blues and the rest are partridge. They are adorable chicks but if you want high quality you will have to purchase from a breeder.
Looks like he has great foot feathering. :D

I agree, it sounds like sour corp. You can google it for treatment.

I love it when they leap around like that!
