Yes. I have a glass bowl on my kitchen counter with fermenting chick starter. I ferment the non-medicated vegetable based bag made by Purina. I feed it when my chicks come out of the incubator until they are two months old. Then I feed them All purpose with lots of additives and goodies to up the protein and nutrition.

I have the medicated feed for my babies. Should I be feeding them the non medicated? I'd like to start feeding FF, but want to do it correctly. Can the medicated not be fermented?

It can be fermented, but I myself don't offer medicated feed for various reasons. I am assuming Mumsy has those same reasons

Don't want to get into all that here, but if you feel very strongly that your birds should have medicated feed, you can still ferment it!

This is Sandy. The only silkie that survived out of my chicks. She(He) is about 5 months old and was turning out beautifully. But sadly, I discovered my little beauty has a crooked beak. If you look closely you can see. So sadly, no showing. But I still love my little Sandy. She's (He's) named Sandy because someone gave us chicks because due to Hurricane Sandy, they couldn't keep em.

Your words mean a lot to me. I just didn't have the courage to do it... I sat down for quite a while and kept an eye on her... and couldn't do it. It's already difficult to do it whenever they are only chicks, but her she is not a little chick anymore. Anyway, I will wait a bit more and decide to put her down if I see more and more blood. Thank you again

Is it alright to feed the FF a little on the wet side? My straining method didn't work as well as I thought it would, so the feed was a little sloppy when I took it out today :/

She is still with us, I found some blood, not too much, but I was wondering what I could give her to boost her immune sytem. She is in the "clinic" coop with her sister until I decide to put her down or not. She doesm't seem to suffer (at least of what I see) and would love to give her one last chance. I have some Polivisol, vitamin E with Selenium, vitamin B.... Any help? Thank you.

On a better note, two of my girls are broody and the first one should have the chicks in two or three days. It is very exciting because first, they are my first chicks from my own birds and also because I am going to see (I hope!) if my rooster is black or just a dark blue

About the FF, my silkies do not eat the same food as my LF( I don't get layer feed) but I would like to try it for everybody. Can you still make it with organic soy and corn free layer pellets? I will need to do it in two different buckets but that is ok. Can you add wheat germ oil to it or calf manna?

Thank you for the response. I'm quite the novice when it comes to chickens. Should I not be feeding the chicks medicated? I def don't want to harm them in anyway, pls inform me. This forum has a wealth of information, I'm so glad to have found it. I only tried once before to raise a few chicks in the house that I'd bought from Rural King. That was prob 8 yrs ago....and I lost all 4 of them. Def do not want to lose them little ones. Thank you for any info you can provide

Wish I had some good advise. I don't think anyone feeds better than you do! I feed alfalfa leaf free choice for vitamins and minerals. Egg yolk and meal worms for extra potein. I think you do the same. Maybe the FF would help.

I'm guessing this one is a boy..along with another that looks just like him with the exception of slightly smaller waddles... but I just want your opinions as well....its a little over 7 wks.
