Here is a judges card that may help you. http://www.hattricksilkies.com/files/beardedwhitesilkiejudging_sheet.htm
You may have to trim the feathers around his vent. Silkies have trouble sometimes with all their fluff. One year is still very young for a roo.Hi,
I'm very new to all this, but saw your title as "Flockmaster" and presumed you could help.
I have a one year old black silkie rooster who runs the barnyard. He keeps the full sized roosters in line, and dances constantly for the ladies. However, I have not witnessed him mating with any of them since last fall. I would think he had lost his "mojo" except for the above behaviors. He has only fathered one chick to date, and again, that was last fall. Is this something common for silkies - breed them while they're young?
Thank you for your time,
David
Such little cuties. I just love pics of their little feathered legs and feet!
so sweet. do you have any silkie serama's? am curious, would like to get one but not sure if all silkies have feathered feet? am new to the chicken world but i love the one i have. she's so sweet and is a serama.
yes they do, it's a silkie gene. You could always try your own project. You would have to breed silkies to seramas, then breed the offspring together and so on.so sweet. do you have any silkie serama's? am curious, would like to get one but not sure if all silkies have feathered feet? am new to the chicken world but i love the one i have. she's so sweet and is a serama.rinett
