This is us.Wry neck baby is already looking better. Only tilts her/his head if I pick it up. Glad I caught it so early.
Mine started yesterday, I think she got pecked in the head by a broody silkie hen protecting her chick. She didn't have it twisted underneath, just tilted to the side when she was walking around. I got some poly vi sol in her as soon as I noticed it, and gave her another dose at night. Gave her another today, and she's already improved. Running around with the rest of the chicks today. I'll continue to give it to her for a while to make sure it doesn't come back. This is us.Got a phone call out grocery shopping today, "I think her neck is broken!"![]()
I don't think we're terribly bad because she is eating and drinking; eating by herself; drinking with some help. She can keep her head up, too.
I have no idea what happened. Could this be a rambunctious cockerel grabbing her? I really need to send him somewhere else.
I'd love to hear how long it took all of y'all to get results without relapse..............
And while I'm at it, what color should we call her? Guy I got her from says she's silver; I'm thinking partridge??)
{and yes, she's back on shavings, lol.}![]()
Is she laying on her back? My friend's silkie was very severe, after a week of 2-3 drops in mouth 4 times daily and food mixed with water and a few drops of poly-vi-sol she was almost back to normal. Also, what food are you giving and how much protein is in it? I find that silkies seem to have a harder time when it comes to growing in their adult feathers and need a protein and vitamin boost. This is us.Got a phone call out grocery shopping today, "I think her neck is broken!"![]()

I've got poly vi sol and vitamin e on board; along with the normal yogurt {which is also where I put the vit e instead of trying to squeeze the capsule into her mouthMine started yesterday, I think she got pecked in the head by a broody silkie hen protecting her chick. She has not been laying on her back, no. She has gone in circles a few times, and I have to hold her to let her drink. It kind of goes in spurts at this point; right now her head is up. She preens just fine, and she doesn't seem to be losing her balance any more than normal. And then she'll have a spell where she'll go totally upside down with her head.Is she laying on her back? It is wry neck and you do need to start treating immediately with Poly-vi-sol without Iron, or she could die very quickly. If it doesn't work, it's an injury. But it doesn't sound like it. It just looked like the first pic she was upside down. Mine was the same as yours, would stand okay, and then walk backwards in circles with her head completely upside down. Silkies should be fed 20-22% protein starter too. If you start treating immediately your odds should be good. But let it go too long and they are quite slim.I've got poly vi sol and vitamin e on board; along with the normal yogurt {which is also where I put the vit e instead of trying to squeeze the capsule into her mouth} I have to go back to TSC for horse food anyhow, so I'm going to see if I can find some selenium somewhere. I think she took a knock to the head, honestly. She was fine before I left.![]()

Because she's almost 5 weeks, she's still on chick starter, which is only 18%. Most of them are getting old enough to switch to non-medicated 20%, but that's another pick-up tomorrow. I may just do eggs, since I'm not sure I want to give BOSS right yet. For what it's worth, none of my other silkies have ever done this; the food is the same as I've always used, and I've never had a problem with feathering. Granted, I've always done a mix with higher protein (which, ime, has kept my LF girls laying all winter long; every one of them, without supplemental light) so I've not had feathering issues, even when molting......![]()
Otherwise, she's acting fine; peeping up a storm. I put one of the babies in there with her to help keep her calm. I don't think this is anything viral; this seems more injury related to me at this point.
I can email the guy I got them from and see if he's had this problem. All of his silkies looked good- well, less the one that had a single comb that he hadn't noticed, but otherwise, they looked good.........................![]()
So, that's encourgaging, since it doesn't seem like my girl is as bad as your friend's.![]()
I'm having the same problem, all the eggs are clear. Where do I trim and how? I have no idea!I just candled all 21 of the eggs in my incubator, and they all look clear![]()
Which probably means the eggs I set under my broody are probably infertile too![]()

I decided to give everyone a fanny trim, and when I got to my rooster the answer was pretty obvious. His feathers were a mess, obviously he wasn't "hitting the mark".
I just want to hatch some eggs dang it![]()
I guess I'll give the eggs I started a few more days just be sure, and start collecting some more after I do whatever with them. That should give my rooster enough time to fertilize the eggs I would think.
