Silkie thread!

What would result from breeding a her to bearded male?
Chicks are likely to have a small bread which wouldn't be an asset to the non-bearded or the bearded.
How do they SEE? Are they noisy? Any drawbacks?
They usually see pretty well but sometimes need a trim. It isn't safe for them to free range and they can't see a hawk coming. They are very quiet but the roosters are just as loud and any other breed.

Not my aunts he's kinda scratchy when he crows.

Would any one want to trade me some non bearded white silkie eggs for Brahma eggs

? Would be wonderful if you could help a 4-her out here. I would want to do 8 for 8 https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/769165/trade-or-sale-6-2-brahma-hatching-eggs .

Well, I went to my first Chicken Swap today and of course I couldn't leave empty handed!!!

To justify the new birds to my DH (after the purchase mind you), I used the following chicken math
wink.png

I originally got 6 chicks
minus 1 (passed away)
soon to be minus another 2 (roos not allowed in our neighborhood (but only if you get caught!!))
Which will eventually leave only 3.
I bought 6 today. Based on the scenarios with the first 6, only 3 of these will make permanent additions, right?
Well, that gets me right back to the original 6. It's perfectly logical to me. DH just smiled and shook his head.

omg... this freakin hen has another egg she won't let go of

I felt it this morning right inside, and let her do her thing all day, and it is still there. So she is soaking in a nice warm bath right now and I am going to keep her and Ice inside over night in their cage. She seems to be enjoying the soaking so she better drop it soon! I can not afford another vet visit.

Huge question. I bred my Lavender Silkie Rooster to my White silkie hen. The chicks out of that pair are very interesting looking. They look like a tortoiseshell or partridge. What do you all think? They also have vaulted heads compared to the normal closed skulls.

I agree! She's produced beautiful blue/gray babies from a blue rooster. Now that I bred her to my Lavender rooster, she's producing partridge like chicks. I had one hatch out that was a light gray with chocolate brown stripes. Very interesting! I decided to put her back in with the lavender rooster to produce more of these interesting babies. I'm no longer interested in breeding her to the blue rooster. The Lavender breeding got my attention.

Nice brooder set up! My DH smiles a lot too. Especially when I start talking genetics. :D The top chicks you are calling paint look like grey (silver partridge) to me. They are all cuties!
